From the Keeneland Media Team:

Rusty Arnold (winning trainer of 2-1 favorite Morticia)

On whether he was concerned whether Morticia would win after six consecutive losses.

“You worry about it. But she had trained great and (there have been) circumstances – she kept drawing the inside and was forced to use her speed. I told (jockey) Irad (Ortiz Jr.) if they go, let her (back) off them. He rode her so good for never being on her. She’s a little difficult.”

Irad Ortiz Jr. (winning rider)

“She broke out of there and she relaxed so well. She relaxed behind some horses, and I didn’t rush her. And when I tipped her out in the stretch, she responded really well.”

Julien Leparoux (rider of runner-up Excessivespending)

“My filly ran big. I don’t know if I could get by (Morticia), but my filly tried very hard. We had a good race. She broke very sharp, sat behind and made a big run at the end but just couldn’t go by the winner.”

John Velazquez (rider of third-place finisher Surrender Now)

“I had a perfect trip. I sat right behind the speed. She (Surrender Now) hasn’t run in a while (August 2018 at Del Mar), so I was biding my time. When she turned for home, I asked her and she ran. Just two horses were faster than me.”
