Q’s Disco Dancer has the moves in $100,000 Back Home Again at Horseshoe Indianapolis

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (Wednesday, September 30, 2026) – Q’s Disco Dancer and Amir Mendoza kicked off a string of premier races with a win in the $100,000 Back Home Again during Hoosier Day Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The youngster was making only her second start and is now two for two for her connections.

Q’s Disco Dancer began from post three and was unhurried by Mendoza in the early stages of the six furlong sprint. Everyone Talks and Fernando De La Cruz took a short lead inside joined by Pioneer Sky and Hannah Leahy to her outside with Ghost Story and Mitchell Murrill three wide as the two-year-old fillies made their way down the backstretch. In the only turn of the race, Miss Resilient and Emmanuel Esquivel were on the move from mid pack to tighten the advantage over Everyone Talks, who was still holding her own on the lead.

In the stretch, Miss Resilient took over before Q’s Disco Dancer emerged between horses on the inside. The two fillies were side by side for a few strides before Q’s Disco Dancer went right on by to win by three and one-quarter lengths. Miss Resilient finished second, just a neck ahead of Ghost Story, giving Trainer Genaro Garcia a one-two finish in the Back Home Again.

Q’s Disco Dancer paid $18.40 for the win. The daughter of Qurbaan is owned by Garcia’s Southwest Racing Stables and Bruce and Lori Murphy, who bred and raised the filly. She boosted her career bankroll to more than $82,000 and is two for two in her young career.

“After she won, I tried to run her in an allowance but there just weren’t enough fillies that were sired like her, so I decided to wait and give her a rest,” explained Garcia regarding her three-month layoff after her win in late June. “I really like this filly. When Bruce (Murphy) decided not to sell her I was happy because she shows a lot of potential. She has speed and I believe she can go far.”

For Mendoza, it was his 18th win during the month of September as he is vying for second in the jockey standings. The Panamanian-born jockey recently lost his apprenticeship and is now a full journeyman, still churning out victories. He was aboard Q’s Disco Dancer for her first win in June.

“She (Q’s Disco Dancer) ran exactly like she has in the past,” noted Mendoza through interpretation by Garcia. “She doesn’t have huge speed but I know she can finish really well. She is a nice filly.”

The 24th season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse extends through Friday, November 13.
