PENNSYLVANIA-BRED ROSES FOR DEBRA HEADLINES

GRADE II, $300,000 PRESQUE ISLE DOWNS MASTERS

John O’Mera and Cheyenne Stables classy Grade III-winning Pennsylvania-bred Roses for Debra is set to return to Presque Isle Downs & Casino from her New York base and face a solid field of 11 rivals that entered Monday’s 15th running of the $300,000 Presque Isle Downs Masters (GII), the marquee race of the season at the Erie, Pa track.

          Run at 6 ½ furlongs for fillies and mares, the Presque Isle Downs Masters is the featured seventh race on the nine-race card. Post time for the Masters is 5:42 p.m. (all times Eastern), first post is 3 p.m. Along with the Presque Isle Downs Masters, the card also includes the $150,000 Presque Isle Mile in Race 5 at 4:48 p.m.

          Roses for Debra is arguably one of the top recent performers in the field for the Presque Isle Downs Masters. The seven-time winner sports victories this season in the Caress Stakes (GIII) and Smart N Fancy Stakes at Saratoga for trainerChristophe Clement. Previously, when Roses for Debra was under the care ofMichelle Brafford, she won Malvern Rose Stakes at Presque Isle. Jockey Irad OrtizJr. has the call from post No. 7

          Another accomplished filly that entered the Masters is five-time stakes winnerMarissa’s Lady. Owned in partnership by Richard and Pamela Tillema and Ron Boone Family Trust, Marissa’s Lady has invaded Presque Isle Downs twice from her Turfway Park base and recorded consecutive victories in a conditioned allowance contest and the Satin and Lace Stakes. The Bill Morey-trained Marissa’s Lady will break from post 3 under Pablo Morales.

          Other notable fillies and mares that entered the Presque Isle Masters include Grade III winner Loyalty; 2022 Delaware Oaks (GIII) winner Midnight Stroll; Lady Erie Stakes winner Jill Jitterbug and two-time stakes winner Opening Buzz.

The Presque Isle Masters has been a major steppingstone for fillies and mares to move into the Breeders’ Cup and be successful on the world’s biggest stage. Some of the horses who have used the Presque Isle Masters prior to the Breeders’ Cup include

Caravel, Groupie Doll and Informed Decision.

Two races earlier in the card, Woodslane Farm’s Wolfie’s Dynaghost leads a field of nine colts and geldings that entered the Presque Isle Downs Mile. Trained by Jonathan Thomas, Wolfie’s Dynaghost is 3-for-4 lifetime over the all-weather surface

including a victory in Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park. Jockey Florent Geroux will have the return call from post 3.

          Breaking one spot to the inside of Wolfie’s Dynaghost is Mad Dog Racing Stable’s multiple graded stakes placed Carrothers. The 5-year-old gelding, who’s under the care of Canadian-based trainer Martin Drexler, was the runner-up to Tyson in the Seagram Cup (GII) in late July at Woodbine. The 5-year-old gelding also finished second in the Eclipse Stakes (GII) in early June. Irad Ortiz Jr. has the call in the Presque Isle Downs Mile.
