(Mr. Misunderstood, trained by Brad Cox, always seems to know where Holly M. Smith is — whether it is in the paddock, on the track or in the barn area. Some how. Some way. They find each other.)

By Holly M. Smith:

Mr. Misunderstood is a 6-year-old gelding with an affinity for the turf, in particular the green at Churchill Downs. He has notched five stakes wins on the turf at Churchill Downs alone, and is now pushing a million dollars in earnings.

I think my love of “Mr. M,” as I  call him, began in the late summer 2017. He is named after the album/song by Eric Church, and being a country music fan helped his name catch my eye.

His owner, Staton Flurry (Flurry Racing Stables), reached out to me about a photo that I had taken, and neither one of them have been able to get rid of me since!

Mr. M is a pretty chill guy; loves to pose for the camera; likes to beg for mints; and I swear he sees me in the paddock before a race and knows who I am.

There have been a few horses over the past years that just get me excited, and push me out of bed in the morning even when I’m tired.

Mr. M is one.

Here’s a look at Mr. M:

(Mr. Misunderstood loves to get dirty and has a time with his groom when getting a bath)

(The eye of a champion)

(Caught with his tongue out)

(Mr. Misunderstood winning at Churchill Downs. Something he does on a regular basis)

(Even in the post parade, Mr. Misunderstood knew where to find Holly)

(He loves what he does)
