Here are some “select” picks and info for today’s card at Keeneland. We will be back to handicapping and commenting on the full card once racing returns to Churchill Downs at the end of the month. Catch all our full-card picks then.

7th: 5-6-3…I love this 11/16-mile optional-claimer worth a purse of $110,000 today. It is for the 3YOs and it is jammed full of interesting prospects coming from all different directions. Most of all, though, I love the potential value that you may be able to catch in this spot. I go with Rocketeer (5), who is listed at 7-2 in the ML. This one may drift up the odds board a bit, though, by post time, due to the action on a couple of youngsters trained by HOFer Todd Pletcher. Rocketeer has not raced since last October for trainer Brad Cox. But he is training lights out and that one race a year ago was a win over this same track. Ran off that day by 4 lengths. Wow performance. That was at the tough 7-furlong distance on the first ask, too. Breeding is absolute stellar, being by Curlin and out of a Stakes-winning Indian Charlie mare. This one has all the ingredients to be a real, real good one and may just show up on the big screen soon — in the G1s. Trainer is installing Lasix for the first time and wins with .34% of the last 228 to get that anti-bleeder medication. Gets the blinkers off here, too, and goes a route for the first time. Wins with .28% of the last 243 to go two turns the first time. Top rider up, who is winning at a .25% clip this meet. More Vino (6) is one of the Pletcher’s duo. This one has not started since breaking the MSW at Tampa Bay in mid-March. Has trained super good since then, as well. Gets the barn’s top rider on this one. Interesting, since this one is 8-1 in the ML. Very interesting. Heartened (3) is the likely favorite and the other Pletcher horse in the field. Ran 5th in the G3 Tampa Bay Derby last time out, after breaking the MSW there the time before. This one has the top credentials on paper and is 5-2 in the ML. Flavien Prat takes the mount for the first time and is world class, but he is 1-for-13 to start the meet here, too. May be overset against a potential world-class horse in Rocketeer. I bet the 5 across the board and then double down in the win wager. I will box the 5-6-3 in one exacta, but I will key the 5 over/under the 6-3 in my bigger play. I will also key the 5 over/under the “all button,” in two smaller units. Love the 5 here. Love.
