Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Improbable, a leading contender for the Triple Crown races this Spring for the stable of Team Baffert, has not raced since finishing 4th in the KY Derby and 6th in the Preakness Stakes. But in 7 lifetime starts, to date, Improbable has put up a nice 3-2-0 record. He got his second published work since June 19 today at Del Mar. He went 3 furlongs in :37.80 — which was the 13th best time out of 18 to go the distance. Appears to be starting back again, and it may be some time before he makes the starting gate in the afternoon.
- Roadster, another one of Team Baffert’s leading contenders for the Triple Crown this Spring, worked this morning at Del Mar, as well. He went 3 furlongs in :37.80, too. This was Roadster’s first published work in the last month, and it may be some time before he makes the afternoon races, too. After running a disappointing 15th in the KY Derby, Baffert did bring this one back to run second in the G3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita on June 16. In 6 lifetime starts, this one has 3 wins, one second and one third. Has earned $726,200 in purses, to date.
- Ashleyluvssugar, an 8-year-old California-bred gelding trained by Peter Eurton, worked this morning at Del Mar. He went 5 furlongs in 1:01.60, which was the 17th best time out of 36 to go that far. This war horse has been a veteran in Southern California and looks to be about ready to tackle the Del Mar circuit again. He has made 34 starts in the career, with a record of 10-6-6 and purses earned of over $1.470 million. In 4 starts this year, Ashleyluvssugar has made 4 starts with a second and 2 thirds. The last start was a solid third in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita on May 25.
