Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks and training centers located all over North America to keep track of those preparing for a big race. Some of the horses we keep tabs on, you will know.  Some of them, though, you may want to know.  Here is a closer look at today’s top workouts:

  1. Dominating Woman is a 3YO filly by Dominus and out of the War Front mare Wet ‘n Reckless and has had only two career starts to date. She broke her maiden with a terrific run on Feb. 25 at Santa Anita, after having run a torrid second in her career debut at Los Alamitos last December.  She put in her 8th straight work since late July this morning for trainer Peter Miller at the San Luis Rey Training Center in Southern California.  She went 5Fs in 1:01.00 handily on the dirt surface, which was good enough to be 8th best out of 16.  Keep a close eye on this one.  Talented.
  2. Diddley is a 3YO gelding that has been on my HTW list all spring and summer.  And, he is coming out of a key race where he was compromised badly. The son of Stay Thirsty has posted an impressive record of 3 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds in only 10 starts to date, but he should have been a stronger presence than his 7th place finish in the Tortugas Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Aug. 19.  He was steadied in that event along the rail on at least two occasions, and lost all chance for a forward placing.  He worked 3Fs this morning at the Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida, which just reopened after the attack by Hurricane Irma.  He went the distance in a time of :36.40, which was third best out of 4 to go.  Keep an eye on this one’s return. Could be a bet possibility.
  3. Abbreviate, a 3YO Harlan’s Holiday filly trained by Chad Brown, has been entered for Friday, Sept. 15 at Belmont Park.  This is one we have been watching carefully and she should be primed and ready to go. She last worked at Belmont Park on Sept. 8, going 4 furlongs in an impressive :48.20.  That was third best out of 48 that day.  She has had only two previous starts and ran a nice second and a fourth in those two.  She has not been seen in the afternoon since March 4, but has plenty of works in for this return.  Watch out.
