Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.  We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working their best and ready for a key race.  Here is a look at today’s top works:

  1. Gun Runner, the amazing 4YO colt by Candy Ride who has swept to the top of the charts in the race for the Breeders’ Cup Classic with amazingly easy and impressive victories in the Stephen Foster, the Whitney and the Woodward, made his first serious appearance at Santa Anita on Monday.  He worked a leisurely half-mile in :50.40, which was 51st out of 66 to go that distance.  The big, burly chestnut will work up to the Breeders’ Cup Classic, which will be held at Del Mar. To date, Gun Runner has made 17 lifetime starts. Ten of those have been at different tracks around the world.  He has raced once in California so far, finishing second to Tamarkuz in the Breeders’ Cup Mile a year ago at Santa Anita. But 2017 has been a much different year for this colt. He has grown into a man and he has shown that on the track.  In 5 starts this year, he has 4 wins and 1 second — to Arrogate in the Dubai World Cup.  Since that second in March, he has won the last three Stakes by a combined total of 221/2 lengths.  And, all of those were G1 Stakes events. Amazing.
