Here is a quick glance at the old work tab today for horses that you may want to keep an eye on when they pop up in the afternoon at some racetrack (or ADW) near you:
- McCormick, a very talented son of Hard Spun trained by Ian Wilkes, turned in a solid 5F drill this morning at Churchill Downs in preparation for the West Virginia Derby. He covered the distance in 1:02.60 in a good maintenance work. McCormick — who has hit the board in 5 of 6 lifetime starts — took a giant step forward in his last race, when he ran a game second to Hence in the Iowa Derby. This one — who packs a ton of speed in his game — is getting better and better with every race.
- Farrell, who has not been seen in the afternoons since she struggled home 14th and last in the Kentucky Oaks, is working her way back to the races. This morning she breezed 3Fs in :39.45 at Saratoga. This Malibu Moon filly had won four Stakes races — 3 of which were Graded — in a row going into the Oaks, is trained by Wayne Catalano. This is her first published workout in the last 60 days and just the first step back.
- Classy Tune, who broke her maiden in her third career start for trainer Simon Callaghan on July 19 at Del Mar, was back on the track Sunday. She worked 4Fs in :48.80, which was 29th fastest out of 78 works at the distance. It may be a race or two down the road for a patient trainer, but this daughter of Maclean’s Music surely is headed towards Stakes company.
