A new feature that we will be adding to the site will be a quick look at some of the best or most notable workouts at racetracks all over the country. We do not intend to be all encompassing, but we do plan to point out some horses that you may want to keep an eye on as they prep for races to come.

If you have someone you would like to point out, or you would like us to watch, as well, please pass it along. We will add to our list.

Paradise Woods

Paradise Woods worked at Churchill Downs before the Kentucky Oaks

  1. Pendleton, a 3YO colt by Giant’s Causeway who was purchased by Woodford Racing (that will have undefeated Timeline in the G1 Haskell Invitational at Monmouth on Sunday), recorded his sixth workout at Saratoga on Friday for trainer Chad Brown.  He went 4Fs in :49.33, which was ninth best out of 20 that tried the distance.  Watch out for this one.  He cost $600,000 as a yearling, and while he has taken a bit of time to make it to the races, he could be a good one.
  2. Paradise Woods, the ultra-talented filly who ran away with the Santa Anita Derby in such impressive and convincing fashion that many projected her to be unbeatable in the G1 Kentucky Oaks this year (i.e. Simon Bray), was back on the track Friday for trainer Richard Mandella.  She breezed 6Fs in 1:13 flat for the 3 quickest work out of 10. This was her fifth work since the Oaks and June 18.  Obviously, she is cranking it back up for a stakes race soon.
  3. Lyrics, who was one of our “Pedigree of the Day” features and the second horse to join our “The Pressbox Power Plays,” was back on the track at Del Mar Friday, as well.  She covered 6Fs, as well, in 1:13.20 — just a tick or two behind the ultra-talented Paradise Woods.  Lyrics has excelled since stretching out on the grass for Mandella.
