McLean’s Handicapping Statistics Now Up-To-Date: Marked Improvement Across the Board in ’25

Stats Are Now Completely Updated

Here we go. After three days of busting butt, a calculator and my eyeballs, we now are back to speed on our handicapping statistics for 2025.

So far this year, we have handicapped races for publication at 9 different racetrack venues. We have handicapped a total of 1,356 races, to date, this year.

If you figure that there is an average of 8 horses per race — and, in Kentucky, that number is very low comparable to what may be the actual number here — then we have handicapped over 10,848 horses so far this year.

Not a bad number. Especially when you consider that in 2024, we handicapped a total of 1,835 races total.

At the end of 2024, our total win percentage was 31.17%. Our top 3 picks combined to hit the board 35.64% of the time and our top pick hit the board on 61.04%. Our “Key Plays” won at a 36.50% clip and hit the board on 72% of the time. That was with 200 “Key Plays” picked.

If you look above, right now, we are winning at a 32.30% rate this year. Our top 3 picks have combined to hit the board 37.07% of the time. Our top pick, alone, has hit the board 61.43% of the time. To date, our “Key Plays” have won at a remarkable 54.73% of the time, and have been “In the Money” on an overwhelming 81.76% of the time. And, that’s with 148 key plays so far this year.

We are having a good year.
