(Brad Cox)

Racing will return to Keeneland on Wednesday, Oct. 11 as the historic racetrack continues to feature top quality Thoroughbred action at its annual Fall Meet.

First post for Wednesday is 1:10 p.m. ET, and will feature the Grade 3 Jessamine Stakes, a 11/16-mile event on the turf for 2-year-old fillies.

The field is full of promising youngsters, all of whom are looking to punch their ticket through to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf event at Del Mar on the first weekend in November.

The leading candidates look to be Lady O’Toole, from the barn of Brad Cox and has won 3 of 4 lifetime starts; the French-bred Thewayiam, who will be making her North American debut for new trainer Graham Motion; Chad Brown’s shipper Rushing Fall, who made a massive closing move to win her first outing at Belmont Park on Sept. 16; Sunny Skies, who is from the first crop of former Derby winner Animal Kingdom and has won 2 of 4 lifetime starts with two thirds, as well; the ultra fast NY-bred filly Mentality, who is trained by Wesley Ward; and Todd Pletcher’s youngster Sugar Queen, who will get blinkers for the first time.

Wide open Stakes event, for sure. Plenty of wagering options, without doubt.

Steve Landers Racing’s Lady O’Toole, a 3½-length winner of the Happy Ticket at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 9 in her turf debut, heads a field of 14 2-year-old fillies and two also-eligibles entered Friday for Wednesday’s 27thrunning of the $150,000 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.
