Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Dragon Drew, a 3YO Get Stormy colt trained by Buff Bradley, got this first published workout since running off the board in an allowance race at Churchill Downs in May. This guy won a nice Stakes event at the Fair Grounds in March and then was 4th in the Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland in April over a really soft ground. Never was able to find the right surface after that, and then got a freshener. Great to see this one back in action today. Went a nice half mile over the dirt track at Churchill Downs in :48.40. That was the third fastest time out of 32 to go the distance. Welcome back.
- Guest Suite, a 4YO gelded son of Quality Road and trained by Neil Howard, worked this morning at Churchill Downs, as well. He went an easy half mile in :51 flat. That was 28th of 32. Expect to see this one soon. Has not raced since finishing third in the Michael G. Schaefer Memorial Stakes at Indy Grand in July. This year, he has a win, a second and two thirds in 6 starts. Best finish was a nice third in the G3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland in April. Ready?
- Wild Shot, a 4YO son of Trappe Shot and trained by Rusty Arnold, has not started since running 9th in the G1 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes at Saratoga in 2017. But this one won the G3 Pat Day Mile on KY Derby Day in 2017 and was third in the Tampa Bay Derby earlier that year. He was also third in the G1 Breeders’ Futurity and second in the G2 KY Jockey Club Stakes as a 2YO in 2016. He got his 6th published workout since Aug. 30 this morning at Churchill Downs, going a half mile in :48.20. That was the second best time out of 32 to make the distance. Good to see this one back in action for owner Calumet Farm.
- Manny Wah, a 2YO son of Will Take Charge who won a very nice allowance event at Keeneland on Oct. 11 for trainer Wayne Catalano, was back in action at Churchill Downs this morning. He went 5 furlongs in 1:03 flat, which was 14th of 16. This one did run third in the Ellis Park Juvenile earlier in the Summer, and has displayed a lot of talent at times. Bears watching on the return.
