Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.  We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:

  1. Beau Recall, a 4YO, Irish-bred filly by Sir Prancealot, has earned nearly $400,000 in her race career and is a Graded Stakes winner for trainer Simon Callaghan. But she has fallen on some hard times of late. The last time she hit the board was when she capture the G2 Royal Heroine Stakes at Santa Anita in April. Since then, the best she has done is three 4th-place finishes in the last 6 races. Now, she shows up on the work tab at Churchill Downs this morning. She went an easy half mile today in :50.60, which was the 19th best time out of 25 to go the distance. It will be interesting to see where this filly shows up next. Since moving from Tipperary (across the pond) to Santa Anita to begin the 2017 career, she has raced 16 times — 14 of them in California. Interesting.
  2. Rubilinda, a 4YO daughter of Frankel and another one who has been based on the West Coast for the entire 2018 season, worked at Churchill Downs this morning, as well. This one, who won the Pebbles Stakes at Belmont Park in October of 2017, went a half mile today in :48.80 over the dirt track. That was the 8th best time out of 25. It will be interesting to see where this one shows up next, too.
  3. Givemeaminit, a 3YO Louisiana-bred colt by Star Guitar, has only one win in his 14 race career — and that came in a MSW race restricted to those bred and born in the great state of Louisiana. But this one is very unusual. He has rarely run against state-breds only. And, at times, he has excelled. He ran third in the G1 Hopeful Stakes and fourth in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile a year ago. He ran third in the G3 Pat Day Mile at Churchill on KY Derby Day. And, most recently, he ran second in a tough allowance race at Churchill on Nov. 8. This morning, he worked at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans for trainer Dallas Stewart. He went a half mile in :48.60, which was the third best time out of 51 to go the distance. Looks ready to roll again very soon.
  4. Zanesville, a 3YO son of Tiznow and trained by Tom Amoss, was scheduled to race today at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. Instead, though, he posted a 6-furlong work over the dirt track there. Went the distance in a time of 1:13.60 — which was the bullet time out of 2 that went that far. This one has shown flashes of being a good one from time to time. He ran third in both the Super Derby Prelude Stakes and the Prairie Mile Stakes this summer, and was 4th in the G3 Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park and 6thi in the G3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes. Still, the colt has only 2 wins and earnings of less than $100,000. Look for the barn to place this one in some spots now where he may be able to improve both the mind and the record. Has talent. Could be a good 4YO.
  5. King of Speed, a 2YO son of Jimmy Creed and trained by Jeff Bonde, is coming off a 12th place finish in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 2. Before that, though, he won back to back Stakes events at Del Mar and Santa Anita. He worked this morning at Santa Anita, going 5 furlongs in 1:00.60. That was the 5th fastest time out of 18 to go the distance. Should be ready real soon for a return to the races.
