Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Risky Proposition, a 3YO gelding by Bodemeister and trained by Bill Spawr, worked this morning at Del Mar. The winner of the Let It Ride Stakes at Del Mar in his last start on Nov. 10 went an easy half-mile in :49.40 — which was the 2nd fastest time out of 5 to go that distance over the dirt track. This guy sold for $60,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2016 and has compiled a record of 3-1-1 in 9 starts — all this year. His purse earnings have exceeded $109,000 to date.
- Awestruck, a multiple Stakes placed winner now and a 4YO daughter of the great Tapit, worked this morning at Keeneland for trainer George “Rusty” Arnold. The filly went an easy half-mile in :49 flat, which was the bullet move and the only move at the distance today. This one sold for $525,000 as a Keeneland September yearling in 2015 and was purchased by G. Watts Humphrey, Jr. She ran a nice second in the Dream Supreme Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4. In her career now, she has a 3-5-1 record in 15 starts and has earned over $230,000 in purses.
- Zatter, a 3YO son of Midnight Lute and trained by Team Baffert, worked on Monday at Santa Anita. The colt won on debut in August of 2017, and then ran a solid second to Bolt d’Oro in the Del Mar Futurity in September of 2017. But after Zatter ran 5th in the G1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita in September of 2017, he has not been seen in the afternoons since. On Monday, this one got his 7th published work since returning to the track regiment on Oct. 5. On Monday, he went 5 furlongs in :59.60 — which was the bullet move out of 44 to go the distance. That exercise indicates that this one is nearby ready to run. Soon.
