Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Achilles Warrior, a 3YO son of Warrior’s Reward and trained by Mark Hennig, is a horse to watch for, IMO. He won on debut last August at Saratoga. Going for a barn not truly known for cranking them up for the first time out, he ran off to a win by over 21/2 lengths at the 5.5-furlong distance. And, he broke third that day. Impressive. To say the least. He game back on Oct. 6 in the G1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont. Was not ready for that, just yet, and ran 10th and last. Pushed the pace for the first part, before tiring at the 1-mile distance. The next out was the Spendthrift Juvenile Stallion Stakes at Churchill Downs on Oct. 28. Ran a very troubled 8th of 9 that day and well-beaten by Dunph. Has been away from the races since, but is trying regularly for the return. Got his 9th published work since Jan. 21 this morning at Gulfstream Park. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01.43. That was the second best time out of the first 2. Coming along.
- Borracho, a 3YO Uncle Mo colt trained by Rusty Arnold, worked this morning at the Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida. Went a half mile in a snappy :48 flat — which was the second best time out of 21 to clock the distance early on. This guy has started 7 times already, with a 1-1-1 record to show on the resume. Ran second in an allowance at Gulfstream Park on March 3. His only foray into the Stakes ranks was a disappointment. Ran 11th in the G1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity last October at Keeneland. May be ready for more soon, though.
- Back to Back, a 3YO colt by Medaglia d’Oro and trained by Arnaud Delacour for Ed Seltzer, worked this morning at Tampa Bay Downs. The homebred went a nice half mile in :48.60, which was the 4th best time out of 41 to go the distance. Last time out, in just his second career start, this guy ran off to a 21/4-length win in impressive fashion. Bears watching. Take note. Could be a good one.
- Strike Silver, a 3YO Violence colt trained by Mark Casse for John Oxley, has not been out since running 7th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs last November. Before that, though, he won the Indian Summer Stakes at Keeneland and was second in the G3 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga. Worked on Wednesday at the Casse Training Center in Central Florida. Clocked a nice half mile in :49.60. That was his 5th published work since Feb. 21 and the bullet of the day for the distance, as he broke from the starting gate. Should be getting close to the first start of the 2019 campaign. Watch out. Talented runner.
- Limousine Liberal, a veteran 7YO gelding trained by Ben Colebrook, worked at Keeneland this morning. This guy — who has tallied nearly $1.8 million in purse earnings — has been idle since his 5th place run in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs last November. Got a little break after that, but recorded his 3rd published work since March 8 today. After two morning works over the all-weather training track, he graduated to the main dirt course today. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01 flat. That was 2nd best out of 3 to record a time at the distance. Welcome back guy. Glad to see you.
- Seek N Justice, a 3YO colt that I bred and raced until he was claimed last time out, got his first work for his new connections at the Fair Grounds this morning. The Caleb’s Posse colt breezed 5 furlongs in 1:01.60. That was the 8th best time out of the first 18 to clock the distance. I am rooting for Seek and his new trainer, Tom Amoss. Hope they win a Stakes or two. Or more. After all, the colt and the new connections deserve it. And, I still own two half sisters.
