Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
- Road to Romance, a 2YO son of Quality Road and who was RNA’d at the 2019 KEE September Yearling Sale for $275,000 by the consignor Baccari Bloodstock, worked a bullet at the Casse Training Center near Ocala, FlA this morning. The colt went 3 furlongs in a snappy :35.40, which was the best time out of 13 to go the distance. It was the 4th published work for this one. This one bears watching. Could be a good one. “Horse to Watch.”
- Four Grands, a 3YO daughter of Honor Code and trained by Dale Romans for the owner/breeder Albaugh Family Stables, worked this morning at Gulfstream Park in final preparation for her next start — which is scheduled for April 10 here. This filly won on debut at Gulfstream Park on March 8. Ran off to an over-powering and impressive 61/4-length win in that career debut. Tuned up this morning with a 3-furlong blow-out in a nice :36.82. That was the 3rd best time out of 31 to go the distance. Watch this one. Could be a rapidly developing one, and considering that the KY Oaks has now been moved to September? Maybe?
- Mr Freeze, impressive winner of the G2 Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes in his last outing and runner-up to Mucho Gusto in the G1 Pegasus World Cup in the race before, was back in training at Gulfstream Park this morning. The 5YO son of To Honor and Serve breezed 5 furlongs for trainer Dale Romans in a leisurely 1:05.95. That was the 11th best time out of 11 to go that far. We will be checking in with the head man at the barn over the next couple of days to see what may be in the plans for some of the stable stars. Look for that interview soon.
- Owendale, a 4YO son of Into Mischief and trained by Brad Cox, worked at Keeneland this morning. The multiple Graded Stakes winner — who captured the G3 Lexington Stakes here a year ago and was last seen running 2nd in the G1 Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs last November — went an easy 3 furlongs in :36.60. That was the 13th best time out of 20 to go the distance. It was the colt’s 2nd published work since returning to serious training on March 29. This one may be poised for a huge campaign, once racing returns full time.
- Monomoy Girl, the Champion filly of 2018 for trainer Brad Cox, worked at Keeneland this morning, too. The 5YO daughter of Tapizar — who missed all of the 2019 racing season — went 4 furlongs in :50 flat. That was the 11th best time. It was the 5th published work in a row for this beautiful mare. She was last seen in the afternoons on Nov. 3, 2018 at Churchill Downs. She won the Breeders’ Cup Distaff that day to clinch the championship. In 11 career starts, this wonderful mare has 9 wins and 2 seconds. And, one of those seconds came when she was DQ’d from 1st. Love to see this one back in live action. Love to see it. One of the best. Ever.
- Something Natural, a 3YO son of Violence and trained by Cox, also worked in Lexington this morning. The colt — who just ran 3rd in the Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park on March 14 — went 4 furlongs in :48.60. That was the 4th best time out of the group. This one has the pedigree and the style to become a nice sprinter. In 7 starts to date, he has a resume of 2-1-1. Look for more out of this one.
- Invader, runner-up in the G3 Jeff Ruby Steaks in his last outing, worked at Keeneland this morning for trainer Wesley Ward. The 3YO son of War Front — who has a 2-1-1 mark, as well in 7 starts — went 5 furlongs over the main dirt track in a time of 1:00.80. It was the bullet move out of 16 to clock the distance. This ownership group paid $500,000 at the 2018 KEE September Yearling Sale for this one. Keep tabs here. Has the pedigree to excel over both dirt and turf.
- Lady Apple, a 4YO daughter of Curlin and trained by Steve Asmussen, worked at Oaklawn Park this morning. This gal — who won the G3 Houston ladies Classic Stakes and beat Serengeti Empress that day before losing to the same classy filly the next time out in the G2 Azeri Stakes — may be pointed to the G1 Apple Blossom Stakes coming up soon at Oaklawn Park. Prepped this morning in Hot Springs, going 5 furlongs in 1:02 flat. That was the 5th best time out of 18 to go the distance. Maintenance move. Looks ready for the next.
- Concrete Rose, one of the best grass fillies that we have had the pleasure to watch in many a year, worked this morning at the Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida for trainer Rusty Arnold. The 4YO daughter of Twirling Candy breezed 4 furlongs over the turf course in a time of :50 flat. That was the 24th best time out of 29 to go the distance. It was 7th published work for the filly since she was returned to serious training here on Feb. 17. She has not run since winning the Saratoga Oaks on Aug. 2, 2019. In 7 lifetime starts? Six wins. Waiting for more.
- Rushing Fall, a 5YO daughter of More Than Ready and a multiple Graded Stakes winner for trainer Chad Brown, worked at Palm Meadows this morning, too. This one — who has 8 wins and 2 seconds in 11 career starts and has now earned over $2.013 million in her brilliant career — went 4 furlongs over the turf course in :50 flat, as well. It was her 7th published work since returning to the track on Feb. 10. The last time she made the starting gate in earnest, she was 4th in the G1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland last October. One of the best, too.
- Uni, another superstar grass mare in the barn of Chad Brown, worked at PM this morning, as well. This gal — who beat the boys in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile to end the 2019 racing season — went 4 furlongs in the same clock time of :50 flat. It was her 4th published work since March 9. In 18 career starts to date, Uni has a record of 10-3-3 and has won over $2.347 million in purses. Wow. Just wow.
