We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

We are back…Take a look:

  1. Chasing Time, a 3YO son of Not This Time and trained by Steve Asmussen, worked at Belmont Park this morning. The two-time winner — who most recently ran 5th in the G1 Woody Stephens Stakes after a 3rd in the G3 Chick Lang Stakes — went 4 furlongs in an easy :49.75. That was the 5th best time out of 11 to go the distance. Be interesting where this one shows up next. Has run in 4 straight Graded Stakes — including the G1 Arkansas Derby — for Myracehorse stables.
  2. Mr. Big News, a 5YO son of Giant’s Causeway and trained by W. Bret Calhoun, worked at Churchill Downs this morning. This guy has not started since he was 4th in an allowance at “The Downs” in September of 2021. In 11 career starts, this one has a record of 2-1-1 — but did run 3rd in the 2020 Kentucky Derby. Today’s breeze was the colt’s 8th published work since May 14. Should be ready for a tilt soon. Today, he went 5 furlongs in 1:01 flat. That was the best of 2 to go that distance over the main dirt track.
  3. Secret Oath, a 3YO filly who just so happened to win this year’s KY Oaks before running a very game 4th in the G1 Preakness Stakes, was back in action this morning at Churchill Downs for trainer D. Wayne Lukas. She got a 6-furlong breeze in 1:12.80 — which was the only time recorded at the distance. It was the 5th recorded work since June 1 and her last race against the boys in the Preakness. She is looking good and about ready to return to the fray. My guess: Saratoga soon.
  4. American Pure, a 3YO son of American Freedom and trained by Brad Cox, worked at Ellis Park this morning. The versatile colt went 5 furlongs in 1:00.20, which was the 4th best time out of 22 to breeze that far. This guy has been under consideration for this Saturday’s G3 Indiana Derby. Look for an announcement soon on his status.
  5. Derrynane, a 3YO daughter of Quality Road and trained by Christophe Clement, worked at Saratoga this morning. The Stakes winner — who captured the Woodbine Cares Stakes in 2021 and ran 4th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint — went 4 furlongs over the dirt training track in :49.34. That was the bullet move out of 27 to gas the distance. This year, the gal ran 2nd in the Limestone Stakes at KEE and most recently was 3rd in the Stormy Blues Stakes at Laurel Park. More to come here.
  6. Double Thunder, a 3YO son of Super Saver and trained by Todd Pletcher, has not run since disappointing in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last November at Del Mar. But the gray colt got his 3rd published work today at Saratoga since being returned to serious training here on June 21. Went 4 furlongs in an easy :53.40 over the dirt training track. It was the third “strong gallop” for the colt in a row. After winning the G3 Bashford Manor at Churchill Downs in June of 2021, this guy also won the Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park and was a strong 2nd to Rattle N Roll in the Breeders’ Futurity at KEE. Here’s hoping he can get back to those glory days.
  7. Classic Causeway, who just ran 3rd in the Ohio Derby at Thistledown on June 25 and is now entered for this Saturday’s G1 Belmont Derby Invitational on the turf, got a breeze at Saratoga today, as well. Now under the tutelage of trainer Ken McPeek, the winner of this year’s Tampa Bay Derby went 5 furlongs over the Saratoga turf training track in 1:03.58. He was the only one to go over the surface. Interesting choice of venues for this son of Giant’s Causeway. Quit turnaround, too.
  8. Gunoe, a well-bred son of Into Mischief and out of the Graded Stakes-placed mare Curlina, worked at The Thoroughbred Center in Lexington for trainer Brad Cox. This guy — who has not raced since finishing 5th at the Fair Grounds on Jan. 22 and is now 0-1-1 in 4 career starts — went 4 furlongs in :48.20. That was the bullet move out of 11 to go the distance today. Stay tuned here.
