(Fair Grounds — the cat’s meow… / All Photos by Holly M. Smith)

Editor’s Note:

Through the years, the Fair Grounds, in New Orleans, has had its’ ups and a few downpours, too. It’s survived a few hurricanes and a few floods. It’s managed to stay afloat, so to speak, and keep on running, in every meaning of the word.

Here’s a few looks of the Fair Grounds through the years with our great friend and the very talented Holly M. Smith.

In just a few days, the historic racetrack will launch its’ next traditional meet, in and around Thanksgiving. When you have a moment, check it out on the tube or in person. It is worth the trip, either virtually or in reality.

The food. The music. The carnivals. The parades. The post parades, too. The Mardi Gras. The Louisiana Derby. The crawfish étouffée. The boiled and barbecue shrimp. The local taverns. The bar owners. The bar tenders. Did I mention the bars?

It’s all worth tasting and enjoying.

Here’s an appetizer, of sorts, courtesy of Holly M. Smith:
