All:
Our grand 6YO mare, Diamond Solitaire, who, unfortunately, didn’t get to race on Thursday in her final effort, has arrived “Back Home” and where it all began — Deerfield Farm, in Oldham County, and the beautiful home of part owners Lori and David Osborne.
First of all, we are happy to announce that she is safe, sound, healthy and happy. After racing for 4 years and making 36 career starts, that is a truly amazing statistic.
Diamond finishes with a record of 7 wins, 7 seconds and 5 thirds.
She is a two-time Stakes winner.
And, she earned over $440,000 in her career.
Not a bad career for any racehorse.
But for one who has endured and overcome so much?
Orphaned after a week in this world.
Left with a broken right leg due to a freak accident when her mom was in the midst of severe colic.
Raised by a nurse mare and a human mom.
Restricted to her stall for months, and then a small round pen for more.
And, still made it to the races at age 2?
Are you kidding me?
It is an amazing story that we have enjoyed through the years.
Our many thanks to those who have cared for her and taken such good attention to detail to help her in this life’s journey, starting with Lori and her nurse mare, Geri.
Here’s a video of Diamond arriving back home today, courtesy of Warren Vans — which is owned in part by Stephen Lyster, who trained Diamond for most of her career. And, loved her so very much.
This is what Stephen wrote to me today:
“Many great memories! By far my favorite filly I had the pleasure to be around. Look forward to seeing her babies run!”
Love that boy, now a man, who I have known since he was a boy.
We are happy for Diamond.
We are so proud of her.
And, we have much to celebrate.
We will be making some decisions for Diamond’s future soon. We will let you know what to expect next.
But, for today?
Let’s rejoice that our girl is home. Safe. Sound. And, happy.
