Today’s work crew:
- Margie’s Intention: This is a Louisiana-bred filly by Honor A.P., and this one bears watching. Put in the “Eye Watch.” On Jan. 18, this one won a MSW event for the Louisiana-breds by a whopping 113/4 lengths at the Fair Grounds. Came back today to work a blistering 3 furlongs in :35 flat — which was the bullet move out of 6 to go the distance. The filly, trained by Brendan Walsh, is entered to run back at the Fair Grounds on Feb. 8. Connections paid a handsome $185,000 at the OBS Sale last year. Not bad for a Louisiana-bred. Take note.
- Seraphia: This daughter of Gun Runner is another possible standout that should be in your “Eye Watch.” The connections paid $1,000,000 for her at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale in August of 2023. She has run 3 times so far for trainer Steve Asmussen. She has two thirds at Keeneland and Churchill Downs before being eased in her last start at the Fair Grounds on Dec. 26. She got her 4th straight work since that debacle this morning. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01 flat. That was 3rd best of 8 to go the distance. Looks ready to return to active duty soon. Stay tuned.
- Tiztastic: This 3YO son of Tiz the Law, who recently was third in the G3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park, was back on the track in Hot Springs on Monday morn. Went an easy half-mile for trainer Steve Asmussen in :50.60. That was the 38th best time out of 48 to clock the distance. Prior to the 3rd in the Southwest, this guy was 3rd in the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club and 2nd in the G3 Street Sense Stakes at Churchill Downs. Big win came i the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile. Picked up $590,000 in earnings in that race alone. Look for this one to try the next step on the “Road to the Kentucky Derby” in Arkansas.
- Zulu Kingdom: This 3YO Irish-bred is in the barn of Chad Brown and is prepping at Payson Park in South Florida for the 2025 return to racing. Finished the ’24 campaign with a 7th-place finish in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. A very disappointing conclusion to a grand campaign that saw him win his first three career races — including the G3 With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga and the G2 Pilgrim Stakes at Aqueduct. Got his 2nd published work on Monday since being returned to the track on Jan. 27. Went 3 furlongs in :37.60 — which was exactly the same time as he breezed on the return, That was the 14th best time out of 25. Look for this one to pick up the pace soon.
- Scatify: This is a 4YO son of Justify, and is trained by John Sadler on the Left Coast. Over the first 8 starts in the career, this one has a record of 1-3-1 and is now prepping for the 2025 debut after being put up last August. This one did run third behind Nysos and Wine Me Up in the G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes last year. Got his 4th published work this morning at Santa Anita. He went 5 furlongs in 1:00.40. That was the 5th best time out of 13 to go that far. Look for more out of this one soon.
