McLean’s “Donation Play of the Day” at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Wednesday, May 7

We started a new feature on the Opening Day of the Horseshoe Indianapolis meet last week. To give honor to both the track’s amazing Vice President and GM, Eric Halstrom, and his father, who served honorably and distinguishably in our country’s military, I am doing a bet for most of the dates this year to help raise money for Homeless Veterans in the area.

Our pick on Tuesday — May 6 — was our 3rd winner in the first 4 selections. And, we are now up to a total of $134.75.

The good news is that we have a long way to go until the end of the meet in November and we are hoping to multiply this number by several fold.

Here’s hoping we can keep the dream alive and the earnings growing. Not a bad start.

Today’s “Donation of the Day” Play:

We are going to make a $5 win/place/show wager on Captive Heart (9) in today’s 5th race. This 4YO Malibu Moon filly ships in for trainer Cipriano Contreras, who normally does quite well at “The Shoe.” So far this meet, he has 4 starts with a 0-1-1 record. More importantly, though, this filly won at Oaklawn Park just two starts ago to break the maiden. Came back to run about 6 weeks later, and had a horrendous break and never ran a step. That is a throw out for me, and this gal now gets blinkers for the first time. The barn wins with half — 50% — of the last 14 to get the shades for the first time. And, today, this one gets the massive drop to the “bargain bin” and $5,000 claiming.

This filly sold for $140,000 as a yearling in 2022. The pedigree is there. And, this one has been facing much, much tougher all her career. If she can get a solid, clean break? Look out. And, she is 6-1 in the Brisnet.com ML.
