We started a new feature on the Opening Day of the Horseshoe Indianapolis meet last week. To give honor to both the track’s amazing Vice President and GM, Eric Halstrom, and his father, who served honorably and distinguishably in our country’s military, I am doing a bet for most of the dates this year to help raise money for Homeless Veterans in the area.
We are now over $202 and we have all the way to November to add to our ledger. Want to join in? It’s a great cause.
Here’s hoping we can keep the dream alive and the earnings growing. Not a bad start.
And, here’s today’s selection…
Mischievous Rogue in the 5th at “The Shoe” Today:
We are trying to forget the bitter taste of our toughest beat down since we started this program at the beginning of the 2025 meet. Last week, we were running our very own Courageous Clay and I had very high hopes for him, us and the “Donation” wager, too. So bullish, in fact, I wagered $50 across the board on Clay for the “Donation” play.
Unfortunately for all, I think Clay may still be running.
Oh well.
Such is this game.
Such is life.
Page turned.
Well, almost.
Today, we are going back to the turf and we will ante up with the pole sitter — Mischievous Rogue (1) — in the 5th race. This 7YO gelded son of Into Mischief will be making his 5th career start for trainer Brittany Vanden Berg and her husband, rider Christopher Emigh. The last two have been Graded Stakes events. The last three have been Stakes races. Now, he gets the drop back down to the allowance company and will get the benefit of Lasix again. The last time he ran with the benefit of the anti-bleeder medication, this steed was a very nice 2nd to Epic Ride, who is a talent that cherishes every chance to run over the Tapeta.
Rogue has run up against the likes of Think Big in the last two and Arrest Me Red and Nobals just three starts ago. Nobals just set the course record at Churchill Downs last week.
This guy has not won since a victory in July of 2024 at Hawthorne, but has run this distance a total of 9 times with 3 wins and 3 seconds. He is also 3-3-1 in 12 lifetime starts over the sod.
Rogue should fit perfectly at this 5 furlong distance here and will be closing late.
Wait for it.
Wait for it.
Wait for it.
There he comes.
And, here’s hoping we get the job done to assist the “Donation” stockpile.
We will bet $10 across the board on the 1 — who is 3-1 in the ML — and will place another $10 to win.
