OUTFIELDER HEADLINES COMPETITIVE FIELD OF EIGHT
IN SATURDAY’S WILLIAM WALKER STAKES
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Thursday, May 7, 2026) – Amo Racing USA, Wesley Ward and Jayson Werth’s Outfielder leads a competitive field of eight 3-year-old turf sprinters entered in Saturday’s 11th running of the $225,000 William Walker Stakes (Listed) at Churchill Downs.
Carded as Race 10 at 5:27 p.m. (all times Eastern), the 5 ½-furlong William Walker on grass is the featured event on the 11-race program. First post is 12:45 p.m.
`Trained by Ward, Outfielder most recently won the Animal Kingdom Stakes at Turfway Park over the Tapeta surface in his first start of his 3-year-old campaign. As a 2-year-old, the son of Speightstown won his debut on turf at Churchill Downs and then targeted for the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot but missed the engagement due to a minor shin injury. Outfielder will break from the outside post in Saturday’s William Walker with Hall of Fame rider John Velazquez aboard as the 8-5 morning-line favorite.
Also entered in the field are the top two finishers from last month’s Palisades Turf Sprint at Keeneland: CJ Stables’ Reb Five and Gold Square’s Throckmorton.
Reb Five, who will break from the rail under Kentucky Derby 152-winning rider Jose Ortiz, pulled a 16-1 upset in the Palisades Turf Sprint, defeating Throckmorton by a neck. Throckmorton will be ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr. and break from post No. 2.

THIS WEEK AT CHURCHILL DOWNS – The Churchill Downs Spring Meet continued Thursday with the first Twilight Thursday of the year, highlighted by the season finale ofFood Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race”. The eight-race card began at 5 p.m. and featured $2 domestic draft beer specials and live music by Piper Madison.
Friday’s nine-race card includes three allowance contests in Races 6, 8 and 9, along with an oversubscribed field of 14 entered in a five-furlong maiden special weight on turf in Race 5. Multiple graded stakes-placed Madaket Road headlines the eighth race as the heavy 2-5 morning-line favorite in his 4-year-old debut.
Saturday’s 11-race card is anchored by the $225,000 William Walker Stakes in Race 10. The program also will feature the 4-year-old debut of Delaware Derby winner Admiral Dennis in a conditioned allowance contest in Race 9.

DOWN THE STRETCH – Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Cherie DeVaux returned to Churchill Downs on Thursday morning following a busy national media tour that included appearances on the “Today” show, “The Pat McAfee Show,” “The Dan Patrick Show,” “The Rich Eisen Show” and “Wake Up Barstool.” DeVaux was scheduled to travel to New York City later Thursday alongside jockey Jose Ortiz to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the New York Yankees game. DeVaux announced Wednesday that Golden Tempowould skip next week’s Preakness Stakes (GI) and target the June 6 Belmont Stakes (GI) at Saratoga. The colt returned to Keeneland on Sunday morning. … Jockeys Irad Ortiz Jr. and Jose Ortiz dominated Kentucky Derby week with a combined 29 wins from 112 starts.
