BURNHAM SQUARE LOOKS TO CONTINUE TURF DOMINANCE IN CHORLEYWOOD STAKES
Multiple Grade I Winner Percy’s Bar Returns in Monomoy Girl
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sunday, June 7, 2026) – Whitham Thoroughbreds’ dominant turf marathoner Burnham Square returns to the spotlight Saturday when he faces eight rivals in the fourth running of the $225,000 Chorleywood Stakes (Listed) at Churchill Downs.
Run at 1 3/8 miles on the Matt Winn Turf Course, the Chorleywood is part of a stakes doubleheader with the $175,000 Monomoy Girl Overnight Stakes. First post is 12:45 p.m. (all times Eastern) with the Monomoy Girl scheduled as Race 9 at 4:56 p.m. and the Chorleywood as Race 10 at 5:28 p.m.
Trained by Ian Wilkes, Burnham Square has emerged as one of North America’s top turf marathoners after winning the Elkhorn Stakes (GII) by 9 ¾ lengths and last month’s Louisville Stakes (GIII) by 4 ¾ lengths.
The 4-year-old gelded son of Liam’s Map began his career on dirt and won last year’s Blue Grass (GI) before finishing sixth in the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (GI).
Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. has the mount from the rail.
Other accomplished horses entered in the Chorleywood include Isaac Murphy Marathon winner Parchment Party along with Louisville Stakes runner-up Dancin In Da’nile and third-place finisher Echo Lane.

The property is now owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated CEO Bill Carstanjen, who partnered with the Thoroughbred transition program Second Stride to provide rehabilitation, retraining and committed adoptive homes to retired racehorses, broodmares and young Thoroughbreds not suited to the track. Chorleywood generally houses 16 transitioning Thoroughbreds at any one time and may serve 80 horses over a year. The historic barn is made of traditional all-wood construction and features adjacent climate-controlled community rooms. There is also a newer barn that is a modern metal-clad indoor riding arena with exterior-facing windowed stalls and a tack/feed room.
