Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks and training facilities all over North America. We are looking for Thoroughbreds that may be poised for a breakout race in the afternoon. Here is a closer look at some of today’s best works:
- Zing Zang, a 3YO colt by Tapit who ran 9th in the G2 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes in his last out effort, is now residing in New York. The colt breezed 5 furlongs at Belmont Park this morning for the outfit of trainer Steve Asmussen, and covered the distance in 1:02.44. That was the 2nd best time out of 7 to go that far. It will be interesting to see where this one is pointed next.
- Chocolate Martini, upset winner of the Fair Grounds Oaks in the last out, got to stretch her legs for trainer Tom Amoss at Churchill Downs this morning. She went 5 furlongs over the dirt track in 1:03.40, which was the 7th best time out of 8 to go that far. This daughter of Broken Vow has now won two in a row and three of the last four. Worth watching up to the KY Oaks.
- Mia Mischief, a 3YO filly by Into Mischief and winner of the Purple Martin Stakes in the last out, worked this morning at Churchill Downs this morning, as well. She went 5 furlongs in 1:01 flat, which was the bullet move out of the 8. This one is trained by Steve Asmussen did run second in the Spendthrift Juvenile Filly Stallion Stakes last Fall.
- Once on Whiskey, a good one by Bodemeister and trained by Bob Baffert, worked at Santa Anita this morning. He went 5 furlongs in 1:00.20, which was the 4th best time out of 18 to go that far. Don’t be shocked if this one shows up on the Stakes level soon, and could be in the Triple Crown mix before the series is over.
