Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks and training facilities all over North America in search of those Thoroughbreds that are prepping for their next race and appear to be ready for a prime performance. Some of the horses that we track, you will recognize immediately and know their names. Others, though, you may not know — yet. Here is a closer look at some of today’s morning glories:

  1. Mr. Classical, a 4YO gelding by Bernardini that is trained by Chad Brown, may be one worth keeping an eye on. This one has raced only twice in the career, with a 4th and a 3rd. Brown left this one in Kentucky and he trained this morning at Churchill Downs, going 3 furlongs in :36.40. That was the third best time out of 16 to go the distance. It was his sixth published work since April 1. May be ready.
  2. Flume, a 2YO trained by Mark Casse for Fox Hill Farms, ran fourth on debut at Keeneland. He worked this morning going a half mile in :49.40 — which was 37th out of 57 to go that far. Keep an eye on this son of Verrazano. Could be a runner next time out.
  3. Seeking a Star, a Pioneerof the the Nile 2YO filly also trained by Casse, worked a half this morning She went the distance in :48.20, which was 16th best. She was fourth on debut at Keeneland, too, and should be much better the next time out, and when they stretch out the distances for the babies.
  4. Souper Smart, who was last seen running 7th to Gotta Go in the Street Sense Stakes here last November, got his fifth published work since April 13 this morning for Casse. He went a half in :47.80 — from the gate. That was 10th best out of 57. Looks to be about ready. Had a win and a second before that Stakes try.
  5. Divisidero, who accomplished so much under the careful eye and tutelage of Buff Bradley, is now in the hands of a new trainer for Gunpowder Farms. Don’t know what more this 6YO Kitten’s Joy horse can do that Buff didn’t get done. after all, he won the G1 Woodford Reserve with him on two occasions. But the horse worked over the all weather training track at Fair Hill today in :48 flat. That was the bullet work out of 8 to go.
  6. Romantic Moment, a 3YO son of Flatter who has won two in a row for trainer Shug McGaughey, worked a half mile in impressive fashion at Keeneland. He covered the distance in :47 flat, which was the bullet of 19. Watch out for this one. Stakes caliber?
