Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.  We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:

  1. Curent, one of the most beautiful sons of Curlin who will ever see and trained by Todd Pletcher, worked at Belmont Park this morning. The chestnut colts — with the flowing blonde mane — went a half mile over the dirt training track in :49.42. That was 34th best out of 92 to clock the distance. This guy is a grass specialist, though, and is coming off a fourth in the James W. Murphy Stakes at Pimlico on Preakness Day. He did run fifth in the Florida Derby to show off his versatility, though. Won the Dixiana Bourbon Stakes at KEE last Fall. Watch for more from this one soon.
  2. Lone Sailor, a very respectful third in the G1 Santa Anita Gold Cup in his last out for trainer Tom Amoss, worked at Churchill Downs this morning. Went a half mile in :49.60 — which was 36th best out of 69 to go the distance. In 19 career starts, this one has only 2 wins. Two. But he has earned over $1.184 million in purses. What a racehorse. What a story. Can’t wait till this one runs next. Tries every time.
  3. Midnight Bisou, probably the best older filly in training right now and one of the best horses to make the oval in the afternoon, worked this morning at Churchill Downs for trainer Steve Asmussen. This year, alone, she has 4 wins in 4 stars and earnings of over $1.215 million. Just this year. Coming off a win in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes on Belmont Day. Worked this morning, going an easy half mile in :51.80 — which was 66th best of the 69. Maintenance move only. Brilliant filly.
  4. Silver Dust, a 5YO son of Tapit and trained by W. Bret Calhoun, is coming off a 4th place finish in the G2 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs on KY Derby Day. Before that, though, won the G3 Mineshaft Stakes and ran second in the G2 New Orleans Handicap at the Fair Grounds. Worked this morning at Churchill Downs. Went a half mile in :49.60. That was 36th best of the 69. This guy is good and gutty. Watch for him. Fun to see this flash of gray run.
  5. Serengeti Empress, winner of this year’s KY Oaks and runner-up in the G1 Acorn last time out for trainer Tom Amoss, worked this morning at Churchill Downs, as well. This brilliant filly went a half in :49.20, which was 29th out of the 69. Brilliantly fast. Tough as nails. Just a joy to watch. And, what a training job with her after the bleeding incident in the Fair Grounds Oaks. Brilliance all around.
