Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
- Max Player, a 3YO son of Honor Code and trained by Linda Rice, worked this morning at Belmont Park. This impressive winner of the G3 Withers Stakes last time out breezed 6 furlongs over the dirt training track in 1:14.64. It was the only time over the distance that was recorded. In 3 lifetime starts, Max Player has two wins and a second. In the last outing, he beat Shotski by over 3 lengths when going 11/8 miles. Came from off the pace and wide, too, in doing it. Watch for his next outing. Player. As in Max Player.
- Seven Trumpets, now a 5YO son of Morning Line and trained by Dale Romans, worked at Gulfstream Park this morning. Went 4 furlongs in an easy :51.25, which was the 17th best time out of 18 to work the distance. After winning an allowance event at Churchill Downs last December to finish out the 2019 season, this guy finished 13th in the G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes at GP on Jan. 25. This was the first published work since that effort. In 18 lifetime tries, Seven Trumpets has a record of 5-3-1 and has earned over $514,000. Look for more on the return efforts.
- Irrepressible, a 3YO daughter of Into Mischief and trained by Steve Asmussen, has been a bit of a disappointment up until now. After the owners, Phoenix Thoroughbred III, purchased this one for $750,000 at the OBS-April Sale a year ago, this one got two races last year. Ran 3rd on debut at Churchill Downs in September, but came back to finish 6th in the last try in October. Got her 6th published work since March 28 today at Keeneland. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01.40. That was the 2nd best out of 13 to go that far. Works indicate that this one may be coming around.
- Wrecking Crew, a 3YO son of Sky Kingdom and trained by Peter Miller, worked at Oaklawn Park this morning. The ridgling — who has run in 5 straight Graded Stakes events — went 3 furlongs in :39.60. That was the 3rd best time out of 3 to go that distance. In the last outing, Wrecking Crew ran 5th in the G2 San Felipe Stakes behind Authentic. Before that, he was 4th to Thousand Words in the Los Alamitos Futurity last December. He was 3rd in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile; 2nd in the Del Mar Futurity; and 2nd in the Best Pal Stakes. Look for this one to show up against the big boys again.
