(Nearly?) Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
We are back…Take a look:
- Red Run, a talented 2YO colt by Gun Runner and trained by Steve Asmussen for the owner/breeder Winchell Thoroughbreds, worked this morn at Churchill Downs. The undefeated colt — who is a perfect 1-for-1 — went 4 furlongs in an easy :49.80. That was the 13th best time out of 16 to go the distance. It was his 2nd published work after winning the debut race at Churchill Downs on May 9. Came from 3rd of 8 that day to run off by nearly 2 lengths at the wire. Talent here, my friends.
- Farsighted, a 3YO Bernardini filly trained by Rusty Arnold, worked at Keeneland this morning. The Stakes winner — who most recently ran 5th in the G3 Beaumont Stakes at KEE on April 2 — went a half-mile in :48.40. That was the 5th best time out of the 32 to clock the distance. In 6 career starts now, this one has two wins and a second. Look for more out of this one soon.
- Letruska, a 5YO multiple Graded Stakes winner trained by Fausto Gutierrez, worked at Keeneland this morning, as well. This one — who has earned by $1.157 million, to date — went 5 furlongs in a blistering :58.80. That was the bullet move out of 5 to go the distance. In her last start, this one won the G1 Apple Blossom Handicap, nipping the grand Monomoy Girl at the wire. In three starts this year, she has two wins and a second. Moves up the ladder now that Monomoy is on the shelf. Take note.
- Petruchio, a 3YO gelded son of Into Mischief and trained by Richard Mandella, worked on Monday at Santa Anita. This one — who was 2nd in the Singletary Stakes at “The Great Race Place” last time out on April 25 — went 4 furlongs in :49.60 over the main dirt track. That was the 40th best time out of 67 to go that far. In 7 career starts, this one has only one win. But has 2 seconds and 3 thirds. That’s 6 top 3 finishes out of the 7 events. Pounding it out.
- United, a multiple Graded Stakes winner by Giants Causeway and another in the barn of Mandella, worked on Monday, as well. This 6YO went 4 furlongs over the dirt track in :48.20. That was the 14th best time out of the group. Last time out came on March 20. Won the G3 San Luis Rey Stakes that day. In 18 career starts now, this one has a record of 8-4-1. Earnings have eclipsed $1.513 million. More to come.
- Sweet Melania, a 4YO American Pharoah filly trained by Todd Pletcher, worked this morning at Saratoga. This multiple Graded Stakes winner went 4 furlongs in :50.12. That was the 3rd best time out of 11 to go that distance. Last time out, this one was a distant 9th in the License Fee Stakes at Belmont Park on April 30. Today was the first work back since that debacle. In 11 career starts, to date, this one has a 3-2-3 mark with earnings over $407,000. More to come. Stay tuned.
