We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
We are back…Take a look:
- Abrogate, a 4YO daughter of Outwork and trained by Steve Asmussen, trained at Oaklawn Park this morning. This Stakes winner — who captured the Purple Mountain Stakes here in April 2021 and later ran 5th in both the G2 Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs and the G3 Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico — breezed 3 furlongs in :38 flat. That was the 4th best time out of 5 to go the distance. This one has not been out since running 2nd in an allowance in Hot Springs back on Dec. 10. Looks ready.
- Nashville, a brilliantly fast son of Speightstown and another trained by Team Asmussen, worked at Oaklawn Park this morning, as well. In 5 career starts so far, this one has 3 wins and a second. Came back from a year layoff to run 2nd here on Dec. 10. Needed that one. Was back in training today. Breezed 5 furlongs in 1:01.40. That was 8th best of the 10 to go. It was his 4th published work since the race. Should be sitting on go. Connections paid $460,000 for him at the 2018 KEE September Yearling Sale. Has earned about $200,000 of that back. More to do. More to go.
- Super Stock, a 4YO son of Dialed in and the 2021 winner of the G1 Arkansas Derby for Team Asmussen, worked this morning in Hot Springs. Went 5 furlongs in 1:00 flat. That was the bullet move out of the 10 to clock the distance. This one has been on a bit of a roll of late. Ran 2nd in the Poinsettia Stakes here on Dec. 11. Before that, he won the Zia Park Derby; ran 3rd in the G3 Oklahoma Derby and won the Ellis Park Derby. Solid credentials. Look for the next spot.
- Rockefeller, a 3YO son of Medaglia d’Oro and trained by the embattled Bob Baffert, worked this morning at Santa Anita. This one — who still is not eligible for points leading up to the 2022 KY Derby and will be on the sidelines unless moved to another trainer — went 4 furlongs in :48.40. That was the 15th best time out of 46 to go the distance. Last time out, this one ran 2nd to stablemate Newgrange in the G2 Sham Stakes. Before that, he won the G3 Nashua Stakes at Belmont Park. I hear the Preakness Stakes is a nice place to point.
- Doppelgänger, a 3YO son of Into Mischief and another one from the Baffert barn, worked this morning as well. This one — a winner in only start to date — went 5 furlongs in 1:00.60. that was the 7th best time out of 31 to clock the distance. Connections — which are by the hundreds — paid $570,000 for this one at the Fasig-Tipton Select Sale in 2020. Long way to go.
