Editor’s Note:

It was “Opening Night” at Churchill Downs this Saturday, and it was like the grand opening of a new movie production or a concert extravaganza. The red carpet gave way to a new green lawn just inside the main track. The runway gave way to a new way of watching the races in suite style. The horses seem to shine a bit brighter under the dazzling lights of this broad way.

It was a grand grand opening.

The looks were spectacular — both on and off the racetrack.

The colors were sparkling — both in the stands and in the silks.

The new and improved turf course was up to speed — both green in color and envy.
