(Admission Office / All Photos by Holly M. Smith)
Due to the restrictions bestowed upon the licensed racetracks by the Frankfort state government, photographers and reporters are not allowed access to the great sport of horse racing. For some odd reason.
But on Saturday, our very own Holly M. Smith accompanied her mother, Becky Smith, an owner, to famed Churchill Downs for the G3 Louisville Handicap.
Just so happens that Ms. Smith — both of who are fantastic people and photographers — brought along her camera to catch her favorite horses and sport in live action.
That’s a treat these days.
Here’a a look at some of the horses and the fun — only through the eyes and lens of the talented Holly M. Smith:
(The horses and jockeys in the Churchill Downs’ paddock. Loading up.)
(A great photo of jockey Corey Lanerie)
(The G1 winner Arklow, the heavy favorite to win the G3 Louisville)
(This is what you miss — yet take for granted — so many days at the track. The looks. The feels. The sights. The sounds.)
(Admission Office — who would go on to win.)
(An outrider masked up.)
(The race unfolds.)
(What a few of both horse and TV reflections.)

(Jockey Florent Geroux and Arklow had to settle for 2nd on this day.)
