We started a new feature on the Opening Day of the Horseshoe Indianapolis meet last week. To give honor to both the track’s amazing Vice President and GM, Eric Halstrom, and his father, who served honorably and distinguishably in our country’s military, I am doing a bet for most of the dates this year to help raise money for Homeless Veterans in the area.

Our pick on Monday — May 12 — was our first “miss” of the campaign. Our selection, Whatnowdaddy, appeared to be in a perfect spot and poised to strike. But? Whatnowdaddy didn’t strike. Instead? Struck out.

But don’t let that disappoint. In our first first 5 selections, we had three winners and two runner-ups. And, we are now up to a total of $150.35.

The good news is that we have a long way to go until the end of the meet in November and we are hoping to multiply this number by several fold.

Here’s hoping we can keep the dream alive and the earnings growing. Not a bad start.

Sakra’s Quest in the 4th at “The Shoe:”

We are going right back to the “well” here, after coming up with “dry” with Whatnowdaddy on Monday, with another steed from the barn of Randy Klopp. This one, Sakra’s Quest, is coming back off a tiring third in the ’25 debut on April 23. Pressed the pace that day and just came up short at the wire. Stretches out to 6 furlongs here, but should benefit from that first race off an extended layoff. Barn wins with .16% when racing for the 2nd time coming back. Gets the apprentice back up in Joseph Romero, who has just one win in the first 22 mounts this meet. This one will get the anti-bleeder Lasix for the 2nd time and the barn has won with .06% of the last 17 to do that. Should be better here for this one. Dam of this one has 4 starters to date. Got 2 winners. This one could add to the resume.

I bet Sakra’s Quest (4) $5 to win/place/show in the 4th race today. Here’s hoping we add to our account.
