Here’s our looks at the card at Horseshoe Indianapolis today, which will feature two Stakes events for the Indiana-bred fillies and males. We love this track and we will ask one of our favorites, Diamond Solitaire, to do her best and win her first Stakes event. As in? Ever. She has placed in 8 Stakes in a brilliant career. But we are still looking and hoping for the first WIN. Today may be the day.

st: 7-1-2/3-5-8/4-6…Beach Dancer (7) gets the nod in the ole’ lid-lifter at one of the best, most attractive, most relaxing and most fun racing facility in the free world. This 3YO daughter of Cloud Computing will make the first start for a barn operation that wins with .18% of the last 17 to debut in the MSW ranks. This is an Indy-bred event and the dam has 1 winner from 3 starters. Sharp. Sharp. Sharp works to show in the a.m. If this gal can break well? Look out and look gone. I bet the 7 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will key the 7 over/under the 1-2-3-5-8 in the exactas. More with the 1-2 than the rest. And…I will box the 7-1-2 in a smaller unit.

nd: 7-3-8/1//4-9…We roll back-to-back 7s to come out today and this one is Pop the Cork (7). This one drops all the way from the MSW ranks of the Indy-breds to the MCL $5,000 level. Should help the cause. After 8 tries against the MSW ranks, he compiled a 0-2-1 mark. This should be easier ask. Nice works leading up. Trainer is one of the best on the grounds.I bet the 7 across the board and double down on the win wager. I will box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the to 3 numbers over/under the 1 in two smaller units.

rd: 10-2-9/5-6/4-8/1-7…Geewhiz (10) draws outside and that’s never easy here, but the 3YO gelding has three impressive runs in a row and looks like he should be right there at the wire for this one, too. Trainer is 5-3-1 in the last 15 and the rider has won with .29% of the last 38 for this barn. Hot combo. Despite only 1 win in 10 tries here and 0-1-0 mark in 6 attempts at the distance. I’m game. A little bit. I bet the 10 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. I will key the top 3 numbers over/under the 5-6 in two smaller units.

th: 11-8-9/(14)-3-10/1-7/2-6-12…This is the first grass race of the day and it will be contested at the 1-mile distance. I go outside to line up with Giovannino (11). The 4YO gelding has raced over the grass 6 times, with no wins so far. Just a 2nd and a 3rd. But the drop in class should assist the effort. Picks up a very nice rider, who has won with 1 of 3 for this barn in the last couple of months. Barn has won with .20% of 76 starters this year, but is 0-0-0 in 4 outs here. Due. Captain’s Flag (8) is my Upset Special of the Day. This 3YO soon of Lord Nelson has not run since last October. Didn’t fire that day. But picks up a top rider here and Lasix for the first time. The barn is ice cold, with one win in 23 starts so far. But this guy can train and is always one of the best on the grounds. Look for better days ahead. Starting here. This one comes from a dam who has 2 turf winners so far. This could be the third at huge odds. Spuns Son (9) gets the blinkers off here and picks up an apprentice jockey who gets a 7-pound weight allowance. Both could assist the effort. I bet the 11-8 across the board and then I bet the 8 across the board again. I box the top 3 numbers in the exactas. And, I will key the 11-8 over/under the 9-14-3-10-1-7 in two smaller units.

th: 7-5-8/2-4/3/9/1…We go to our third “7” of the day here with Catch a Nite Train (7). This is a 2YO with racing experience. Barn wins with .10% out of the last 52 when making the 2nd start. Trainer, also, wins with .20% in sprints and with .12% of the last 43 2YO starters. Could improve enough here to be real dangerous. Bold Justice (5) will make the first start. Dam of this one has 3 winners from 3 starters and a Stakes winner in restricted company. Hot trainer and rider has won with .29% of the last 38 for the barn. One to beat. I bet the 7-5 across the board and then bet the 5 across the board again. I will box the top 3 in the exactas. I will key the 7-5 over/under the 8-2-4-3 in two smaller units.

th: 6-10-11/1-8-9-7/4…This is the last turf race of the day and will be for the 2YOs going just 5 furlongs. I go with Homie (6), a son of Mendelssohn who was bred and is still owned and trained by Wesley Ward. When he ships here, he does with a real purpose. Nothing to show in the first 2 starts here this meet. But look out. That will change in a hurry. Fits the bill here. Ornato (10) could really spice up the odds here. This one is listed at 12-1 in the ML, but the barn is off to a terrific start this meet, winning at a .31% rate. Take note. I bet the 6-10 across the board and then box the top 3 numbers in the exactas.

th: 12-9/11-2/8-10/3-5/1-4/6-7…Shelby County Handicap… Diamond Solitaire (12) is now 6 years old. Hard to imagine. Seems like only yesterday she was making her first start for us here. What a career it has been, so far, too. She has raced 31 times so far and has a 5-7-5 record. She has won over $319,000. And, she has placed in 7 Stakes for us. Not bad for a girl whose mother died just a week into her life and left her only a broken right leg for the effort. But here we are today. We have never won a Stakes yet, and we are wanting to so badly. The distance is really not her best. But the new trainer has her ready and there appears to be a ton of speed in today’s race. If the speedy types go, we may have a chance to close and catch them at the wire. You know me and our great team — led by David and Lori Osborne — will be rooting like crazy and wearing the colors. They always show. They always do. We are a bit biased here, but we go with our gal. I bet the 12 to win/place/show and then double down on the win wager. I will box the 12-9 in one exacta. I will key the 9 over/under all the numbers — but more with the 9-11-2-8-10.

th: 6/9-8/1-7/2…William Henry Harrison Handicap…Mr. Chaos (6) is not only our pick, but also our “Key Play of the Day.”  This 5YO gelding has raced the distance 8 times and has an impressive record of 4-2-1. Has won nearly $200,000 at this sprint distance, alone. Has gone 8-5-1 in 17 starts here, too. Won the season opener and looks ready as a beaten favorite to return to the winner’s circle in style. Barn wins with .33% of those coming back as a beaten fan’s choice. I bet the 6 to win/place and then double down on the win wager. I will key the 6 over/under the 9-8-1-7-2 in the exactas. More with the 9-8 than the rest.

Good Luck & All the Best / Gene
