The annual Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale at Fasig-Tipton is coming up next week and we have spilled some time, guts, sweat and a few tears looking through and over the catalogue for this year’s event.

There are some intriguing Hips that do poke the interest button in three major categories for us:

  1. Newly turned Yearlings
  2. Racing / Broodmare Prospects
  3. Broodmares In-Foal

The vast majority of those that pique our interest, though, are the newly turned yearlings. Such as:

There is a filly by Nquist (Hip 92) that we will definitely go take a look and see. The sire is young and was a heckuva runner. We anticipate that his chances of making a top stallion are better than most, and we are looking forward to his runners later this year. Nquist’s first foals are 2YOs this year. And, he was a Champ 2YO in his own right.

There are several progeny of the young stallion Practical Joke — including Hip 104, a colt out of a Storm Cat Mare. Practical Joke was one of my most favorite runners in recent years. Always entered. Always tried. Nearly always there at the end. He won G1s as a 2YO. He won a G3 as a 3YO and won the G1 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes, too. And, he is a son of Into Mischief. Lots to like in the sire line.

There is a yearling filly by Ghostzapper — Hip 138. Must see for most all.

There is a filly by Blame, and a few by Air Force Blue. And, there is Hip 270 — a colt by Flintshire. The sire won nearly $10 million in a brilliant race career and won G1s on both sides of the big pond in the infield. Can’t way to see this cat.

Lots to look forward to, to be sure. Lots to look at, once on the grounds.
