(Churchill Downs coming down on a Sunday morn / All Photos by Holly M. Smith)
Editor’s Note:
Nothing is more spectacular than a morning at Churchill Downs.
The Twin Spires peaking through the dark as daybreak begins to shine on this ole’ Kentucky home.
The horse’s breath puffing into the air like little tufts of smoke billowing from a little fire engine that could.
The yelps of the exercise rides cut through the fog, and soon you can see both rider and horse prancing along in perfect harmony.
The mix of dirt, mud, sand and grit cling to your boots like a tick looking for a tasty treat of skin.
The barns coming alive with the sound of both work and love, as grooms and hot walkers take care of those that take care of them. The kindness, and compassion drip like the morning bath.
Nothing is more spectacular than a morning at Churchill Downs.
