Here’s our work list for this Saturday, Feb. 8:
- Admiral Dennis: This highly-touted and acclaimed 3YO son of Constitution, who is owned by the Albaugh Family worked this morning at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans for trainer Brad Cox. This guy, who ran 4th in the Gun Runner Stakes here on Dec. 21 before coming back to win an allowance on Jan. 20, went 4 furlongs in an easy 50.20. That was the 85th best time out of 126 to go the distance in a pure maintenance move. Look for this guy to show back up in preps for this year’s KY Derby. Keep an eye here.
- Chasten: This is a 3YO filly by Into Mischief, and is owned by the breeder — Juddmonte Farms. Worked this morning for Cox at the Fair Grounds, as well. Went a half-mile in an impressive 48.40. That was 23rd best out of the 126 to go the distance, but she did it well in hand. She just ran 4th in the Silverbulletday Stakes at “The Grounds” in the first start of the ’25 season. Broke the maiden at Churchill Downs last November. Look for this gal to push for points to this year’s Kentucky Oaks.
- East Avenue: This son of Medaglia d’Oro has won 2 of 3 lifetime for trainer Brendan Walsh and the ownership team at Godolphin, LLC. Worked this morning at the Fair Grounds, going 5 furlongs in 1:00.40. That was the 4th best time out of 40 to go the distance. The one won the first two starts of the career, including the G1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland. Finished 9th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile after a terrible, stumbling start. Look for this one to make a serious run at this year’s KY Derby.
- Speed King: The winner of the G3 Southwest Stakes on Jan. 25 at Oaklawn Park was back on the track doing some extra work for trainer Ron Moquett. Went 5 furlongs in Hot Springs, going the distance in an easy, maintenance-move time of 1:04 flat. That was the 29th best time out of 32 to measure the distance over the dirt track. In 3 career starts now, his one has 2 wins and a second. The runner-up position came in the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes on Dec. 13 to Coal Battle. Look for more out of this son of Volatile.
- Assertiveness: This 3YO daughter of Into Mischief is one that is on the “Eye Watch.” This one ran 4th in the debut effort on August 3 at Saratoga. Been sidelined since for trainer Todd Pletcher, but she was seen again this morning at Palm Beach Downs. Turned in her 3rd serious work since being returned to serious training on Jan. 26. Went 4 furlongs in :47.69 this morning, which was the bullet time out of 23 to go the distance. Look for more out of this one soon.
- Uncaged: The 3YO son of Curlin won his career debut at Saratoga last summer, coming from off the pace to win going away impressively in a 6-furlong sprint. Went to the sidelines after that, but got his 3rd work in a row since returning to training on Jan. 26 this morning. Went 4 furlongs in an easy :50.17. This one cost $450,000 for the ownership team of WinStar Farm and Repole Stable at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Another on the “Eye Watch.”
- Muhimma: This 3YO daughter of Munnings is a perfect 3-for-3 for trainer Brad Cox and owner Shadwell Stable. She worked at Payson Park this morning, ripping off 5 furlongs in 1:02 flat. That was the 2nd best time out of 20 to go that distance over the training track’s dirt surface. In the first three starts of the career, she has won twice at Churchill Downs and the G2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct. Major player for this year’s KY Oaks coming up. This was her 5th work since returning to serious training on Jan. 11. Look for more here.
