Here’s a look at the Tuesday work crew:
- Salted: This 3YO roan filly sports a hefty pedigree, being by the grand sire Tapit and out of the multiple Graded Stakes winning mare Salty. This gal fetched a final bid of $760,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Worked today at the Casse Training Center near Ocala, FL. Went 3 furlongs in :37.20. First published work since running 8th in the G1 Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga last August. Before that, this filly was 2nd in a MSW event at Churchill Downs and “The Spa.” Look for this gal to grown into a good one soon. On the road back to you.
- Disarm: A Graded Stakes winning son of Gun Runner and out of the Tapit mare Easy Tap is a home-bred for the Winchell family. Has amassed over $1.29 million in 14 starts so far, with a record of 3-3-3. Worked this morning at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. Went a half-mile in an easy :51.20. That was his 2nd published work since running 4th in the G2 Lukas Classic at Churchill Downs last September. This 5YO should have a solid year. Back soon.
- Batten Down: This 4YO speedy Tapit colt won the G3 Ohio Derby and the Bourbon Flight Stakes a year ago and ran 3rd in the G2 Jim Dandy and 5th in the G1 Travers Stakes, too. After running 4th in the Discovery Stakes at Aqueduct last November, he got a little break from serious training by conditioner Bill Mott. Got his 3rd straight weekly work this morning at Payson Park in South Florida. Went a half-mile in :49 flat. That was the bullet move out of 17 to cover the distance over the dirt oval. Look for this one to have a solid year. His mother — the great Close Hatches — was really good in her latter racing years, too.
- Damon’s Mound: A multiple Graded Stakes winning Florida-bred, who is trained by my great friend Michele Lovell, worked at Payson Park this morning, as well. Went 5 furlongs from the gate in 1:02 flat. That was the best time out of 6 to negotiate that distance. This son of Girvin, just ran 4th in a deep dive of the G1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita. Race before? Was a 2nd in the Steel Valley Sprint Stakes in November at Mahoning Valley in Northern Ohio. Should find a spot to return soon.
