Today’s work crew:

1. Slider: If you haven’t heard, or seen the blur, yet, take a gander at the work this 3YO son of Jimmy Creed turned in on Sunday at Santa Anita in his final prep for this weekend’s G3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct. It was goose-bumping. The colt went 5 furlongs in a brilliant :59 flat over the dirt track and that turned out to be the bullet move out of 131 to try the distance on this day. One of the few horses to match that time on Sunday was the 5YO Newgrange — who just so happens to be a multiple Graded Stakes winner and has won the G2 San Antonio Stakes and the G2 San Pasqual Stakes in his last two efforts. In other words? Slider is going to be making the trip East for trainer John Sadler, who is truly one of the best in the game. After all, do you remember the horse Flightline. Sadler trained him, too. And, the horse — Slider — could not be doing any better. In 5 career starts, the colt has sewn together a record of 2-1-1 and has a win over the dirt and a Stakes win over the turf. Last time out, he was a frisky 3rd in the G2 San Vicente Stakes, after being pushed on the lead the entire way by a Baffert rabbit. Look for this guy to be a tough out come Saturday in the big city. Rooting for this one, too, for personal reasons. My great friend for life, former MLB pitcher Rob Murphy, is one of the invested partners in the West Point Thoroughbreds share.
