Today’s work crew:

1. Plumeria: This 3YO daughter of Curlin is a homebred for Stonestreet Stables and is today’s Horse to Watch. The filly has started three times already, and has posted a couple of 2nds. She ran 2nd in the debut last August at Ellis Park and followed that up with a 2nd at Kentucky Downs in September. Finished the year on a down note, with a 6th at Keeneland. Got her 3rd work since being returned to serious training in February for trainer Steve Asmussen this morning in New Orleans at the Fair Grounds. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01.40. That was the 3rd best of 8. Look for this one to return soon.

2. Rocket Can: A 4YO son of Into Mischief, who is trained by Bill Mott, has not run since finishing 9th in the 2023 version of the Kentucky Derby. But this one is on the road to recovery. Got his 7th published work since coming back to serious training at Payson Park in Florida in mid-January. Went 5 furlongs today in 1:01 flat, breezing from the gate. That was the bullet move out of 3. In 8 career races, this guy has 2 wins and 2 seconds, including a victory in the G3 Holly Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park last February. Look for this one to make the starting gate again soon.

3. Nakatomi: This 5YO son of Firing Line is coming off a 3rd place finish in the Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay on Feb. 10 and looks to be picking up right where he left off last year for trainer Wesley Ward. Finished last year with a 3rd in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint after nearly winning the G2 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland in October. In 16 lifetime tries, this one has a mark of 5-2-5 and has earned over $761,276. Had a maintenance move at Payson Park this morn. Went 4 furlongs in :48 flat. That was the bullet move out of 18 to go the distance. Nice maintenance. Keep an eye out here.

4. Ruby Nell: This 4YO daughter of Bolt d’Oro, who is trained by HOFer Richard Mandella, worked this morning at Santa Anita. Went an easy 3 furlongs in :36.60. That was the 2nd best of two to start the morning on the Left Coast. In 11 lifetime tries, this one has a nice record of 5-2-2 and is coming off a 3rd place finish in the G2 Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf Invitational. Before that, she won the Lady of Shamrock Stakes at “The Great Race Place.” More in store for this one, it appears.
