Once again, in 2024, we will scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country to see who may be preparing for their next race.  Some of the horses that we track will be familiar to you.  Some of them, though, you may not know — but should.  We will note their current morning prep and make other comments about their backgrounds and pedigrees.  If you have a horse that you would like to add to our list, please let us know.

Here is a closer look at today’s list:

  1. Goddess of Fire, a 5YO mare by Mineshaft and trained by Todd Pletcher, worked at Palm Beach Downs this morning. The multiple Graded Stakes Placed mare, who is a homebred for Red Oak Stable, went 4 furlongs in :48.54. That was the bullet move out of 9 to go the distance today. In 11 career starts, this gal has only 1 win. But she does have 4 more seconds and 2 thirds over the career. This lady also ran 3rd in the G1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga last August. Was beaten in that one by Nest and Secret Oath. Was about 6 lengths behind the winner.
  2. Buttercream Babe, a 3YO filly by Twirling Candy and trained by Mike Maker, worked this morning at the Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida. Went 3 furlongs in :36.35, which was 2nd best out of 7 to go that distance. This one ran 2nd in the G3 Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita last October and is now entered for the Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 6. Could be a handful.
  3. Casa Creed, now an 8YO horse by Jimmy Creed and a multiple Graded Stakes winner for trainer Bill Mott, worked at Payson Park in South Florida this morning . The winner of the G1 Fourstardave Handicap just two starts back and 3rd place finisher in the Breeders’ Cup Mile last time, went 3 furlongs over the main dirt surface in :37.60. That was the only move at the distance for the day. This was his first work since the November G1. Look for more out of this one, who has an amazing 9-5-6 record in 34 starts and has now earned over $2.64 million in the career.
