Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Joevia, a 3YO Shanghai Bobby colt who has run two straight Stakes events to begin the 2019 campaign for trainer Gregory Sacco, may be a consideration for the G2 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland next Saturday. He worked this morning at Belmont Park, going 4 furlongs in :48 flat. That was the bullet move out of 37 to go the distance. Sure would be interesting to see this one to show up in Lex.
- Haikal, a 3YO colt by Daahar and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, is coming off an impressive, come-from-behind win in the G3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct in the last outing. The race before that? This one beat Joevia in the Jimmy Winkfield Stakes. Haikal worked this morning at Belmont Park, as well, covering 4 furlongs in :49.77. That was the 24th best time out of 37 to go the distance. This one has 3 wins in a row now and should wheel back in the G2 Wood Memorial.
- So Alive, a 3YO Super Saver colt trained by Todd Pletcher, is coming off a third place finish in the Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay in his last start. This guy broke his maiden at first asking at Keeneland last October. Now, he may be pointed to the G2 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes next Saturday. Prepped this morning down at the Palm Beach Downs training center in South Florida. Went a half mile in :48.91. That was the 5th fastest time out of 18 to go the distance. Interesting developing colt.
- Tax, a 3YO gelded son of Arch who was claimed at Keeneland last October by trainer Danny Gargan, worked Thursday morning at Belmont Park. Blitzed 4 furlongs in a brisk :47.80, which was the 3rd fastest time out of 31 to go the distance. He has not raced since winning the Withers Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 2. But he will be one of the favorites for this year’s Wood Memorial. In 4 career starts to date, Tax has never missed the board and has two wins in the mix. The kind you root for, for sure.
- Bano Solo, a 3YO colt that we have touted on these pages over the past few weeks and reported his workouts, got to the starting gate for real on Friday afternoon. Looked good in winning at Oaklawn Park. Hope he comes back well and as a great summer. This one looked very nice winning on the debut at Churchill Downs last year.
- No Mo Temper, a 3YO Uncle Mo filly trained by Mark Casse, has a 1-1-2 record in the first 5 starts to date, and should be rounding back into shape after a short layup from the last race on Dec. 23. Got her first published work since that race today at the Casse Training Center in Central Florida, breezing 3 furlongs in :37.40. That was the 2nd best time out of 5 to go the distance. Worth watching for.
- Covfefe, a fast 3YO daughter of Into Mischief, breezed at Churchill Downs this morning for trainer Brad Cox. The filly — who broke the maiden on debut by nearly 10 lengths last September — went 5 furlongs in a brisk :59.40. That was the 2nd best time out of 8 to go the distance. She’s a blur ball, but worthing keeping trek of — for sure.
