We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

We are back…Take a look:

  1. Somelikeithotbrown, a multiple Graded Stakes-winning son of Big Brown and trained by Mike Maker, worked at the Churchill Downs Training Center in Louisville this morning. This guy — who ran 2nd in the G2 Wise Dan Stakes at Churchill Downs in his last outing and won the G2 Dinner Party Stakes at Pimlico in the race before — went 5 furlongs in 1:00.60. that was the 2nd best time out of 6 to go the distance over the main dirt track. In 20 lifetime starts now, this one has 7 wins, 5 seconds and 2 thirds. Total earnings is approaching $900,000. Nice.
  2. Montebello, a 2YO son of Curlin and trained by the embattled Bob Baffert, made quite the impression on debut. Won the 6 furlong test at Del Mar on Aug. 7 by a neck over his stablemate Flying Drummer. Led gate to wire, despite rapid-fire fractions. Returned to the work tab on the Left Coast this morning, going 4 furlongs at Del Mar in :47.60. That was the 2nd fastest time out of 57 to clock the distance. The connections paid $400,000 for this one at the 2020 KEE September Yearling Sale. May turn out to be a bargain. Take note.
  3. Pinehurst, another promising 2YO in the Baffert barn, went  4 furlongs in :47.60 today, as well. Just a shade behind the top one. This son of Twirling Candy broke the MSW on debut on Aug. 1. Won by a 1/2-length margin over another Baffert 2YO — Enbarr. There was another 12 lengths back to the “show” horse that day. This one cost $385,000 at the 2020 KEE September Yearling Sale and was purchased off the Woods Edge Farm consignment. that was $200,000 more than the purchase price at the 2019 KEE November Sale.
  4. United, a winner of over $1.675 million in the career and the G2 Eddie Read Stakes in the last outing for trainer Richard Mandella, worked this morning at Del Mar, too. Clocked 5 furlongs over the main dirt track in 1:00.60. That was 11th best of 64. Looks primed. In 20 lifetime starts, this grass specialist has a record of 9 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third. Looking for more hardware to add to the mantle.
  5. Ying Yang, a 2YO daughter of Point of Entry and trained by Brad Cox, worked at Ellis Park this morning. This gal won the debut race at the ole “Pea Patch” on July 3. Won going gate to wire and holding on to capture the neck victory, while traveling 1 mile over the sod. Went 4 furlongs today over the main dirt track in :47.40. That was the bullet move out of 9 to go the distance. It was the 4th published work since the win. Ready. Aim.
  6. Guajira, a 2YO daughter of Gormley and trained by Wesley Ward, stretched her legs at KEE this morning. The debut winner — who broke the MSW at Churchill Downs on May 7 — went 4 furlongs in :51.40. That was the 9th best time out of 10 to go the distance. It was the third published move since the win. Interesting what will be next after the deliberate fractions today. KY Downs?
  7. Miss Alacrity, an undefeated 2YO daughter of Munnings and another trained by Ward, worked at KEE today, as well. Covered the same ground as the one above, but finished the work in :49.40. That was the 8th best time out of the 10. This NY-bred broke the maiden at Belmont Park before capturing the Colleen Stakes at Monmouth last time out. Did that in impressive fashion. Owned by CJ Thoroughbreds and helped named by a member of that syndicate — Sen. Damon Thayer. May be another pointed to KY Downs very soon. Money on the line.
  8. South Bend, a multiple Graded Stakes placed winner for trainer Bill Mott, worked at Saratoga this morn. The 4YO son of Algorithms, went 4 furlongs in an impressive time of :46.87. That was the bullet time out of the 36 that clocked the distance. Last time out, this one was 6th in the Fasig-Tipton Lure Stakes at Saratoga. Before that, he was 4th in the G2 Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs. Last win came at KEE this spring in an allowance event. Interesting to see where this one goes next. Did run 15th in the 2020 Kentucky Derby.
  9. Code of Honor, a 5YO son of Noble Mission and once considered one of the top horses in the world, worked at Saratoga this morn. This guy — who ran 5th in the G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park in his only 2021 start and some 7 months ago — went 4 furlongs over the dirt training track in a time of :49.49. That was the 2nd best time out of 19 to go the distance. It was the 8th published work for Code since being returned to serious training on June 18. In 16 lifetime starts, this one has a record of 6-4-2 and has earned over $2.6731 million in purses. Can he return to glory?
  10. Fulsome, a top 3YO Into Mischief colt trained by Brad Cox, worked this morning at “The Spa.” This one — who saw his 3-race win streak snapped in the pace-compromised G3 Indiana Derby last time out — went 5 furlongs over the main dirt track in 1:01.88. That was 4th best of the 11. Don’t be too critical of this one. Had no chance running against the speed at Indy Grand that day, and the winner just came back to capture the West Virginia Derby. No slouch, either. Look for this one to return with a bang. I’m watching.
