Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Dak Attack, an impressive winner of the Ellis Park Juvenile a year ago, continues to prep for his 2019 debut for trainer Dale Romans. The 4YO son of Ghostzapper got his 8th published work since June 10 this morning at Churchill Downs. He went 5 furlongs in 1:02.20, which was the 13th best time out of 23 to clock the distance. Dak Attack has not run since finishing 9th in the Cherokee Run Stakes at Churchill Downs last November. That is the only race that he has not hit the board in 5 lifetime starts. If right? He is really good. Ready for him to be right again.
- Mr. Freeze, winner of the West Virginia Derby a year ago and a 4YO son of To Honor and Serve, is on the comeback trail for Romans, as well. He worked at Churchill Downs this morning, going 5 furlongs. Covered the distance in 1:01.20 — which was 6th best of the 23. He has not run since January, but in 6 lifetime starts to date, he has a 3-1-0 mark and has won nearly $450,000 in purses. Got his 6th published work since late June this morning. Should be about ready.
- Stormy Liberal, a 7YO son of Stormy Atlantic and trained by Peter Miller, has not run since finishing 3rd over in Dubai at the end of March. But the 2-time Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Champ got his 5th published work since July 11 this morning at Del Mar. Went a half mile in :50.80 over the dirt track. That was 17th best of 26. May be on another run toward that Breeders’ Cup title this Fall. Amazing guy, this one.
- Champagne Anyone, winner of the G2 Gulfstream Oaks for trainer Ian Wilkes, worked at Saratoga this morning. The 3YO daughter of Street Sense has run 4th in the last two starts — the G1 KY Oaks and the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01.33 this morning, which was the 4th best time out of the first 8 to clock the distance. Keep an eye on this one. Has not had the best of racing luck in either of the last two, while catching spectacular performances. Could be ready to spot up in the winner’s circle again soon. Very soon.
- Honey Bunny, a 5YO daughter of Tapizar and trained by the talented young conditioner John Ortiz, ripped off 5 wins in a row earlier this year. Elevated her game in each, coming out of the Starter Allowance conditions. Finished that run with an amazing win in the G3 Winning Colors Stakes at Churchill Downs. Was 5th in the G2 Honorable Miss at Saratoga in the last out, in late July. But what a storyline on this one. In 33 lifetime starts now, she has 14 wins, 5 seconds and 4 thirds. Earned nearly $450,000. Worked this morning at “The Spa.” Went 5 furlongs in 1:01.32, which was the 3rd fastest time out of the 8. Always rooting for this one. Always.
