We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
We are back…Take a look:
- Lane Way, a 4YO son of Into Mischief and part of the MyRacehorse and Spendthrift Farm program for trainer Richard Mandella, worked at Del Mar this morning. The gelding — who has run only once this year so far, and finished 4th on Jan. 9 at Santa Anita — got his second published work since being returned to serious training on Aug. 2. He went 3 furlongs in :37 flat, which was the 6th best time out of 27 to clock the distance this a.m. In the first 10 starts of the career, this one has only 1 win. But? Has run 3rd in a Stakes and has 2 seconds and 5 thirds. Be good to have him back racing soon.
- Classier, a 3YO son of Empire Maker and winner of the July 4 G3 Los Alamitos Derby for the embattled trainer Bob Baffert, worked this morning at Del Mar, as well. Went a very nice 5 furlongs in :59.80 — which was the 2nd best time out of 43 to go that far. It was the 4th published work since the last win. In 4 career starts now, this one has 2 wins and a third. Only time off the board was in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at KEE last November. Was 8th to Essential Quality in that one.
- Express Train, a 4YO son of Union Rags and trained by John Shirreffs, worked at Del Mar this morning, too. The multiple Graded Stakes winner — who won the G2 San Diego Handicap last time out over this same track on July 17 — went 6 furlongs over the main dirt track in a time of 1:13 flat. That was the bullet move out of 3 to go. This guy has hit the board in all 5 starts this year — all Graded Stakes — and has a win the G2 San Pasqual Stakes, too. Nearly $700,000 in career earnings. Next?
- Super Stock, a 3YO son of Dialed In for trainer Steve Asmussen, worked at Ellis Park this morning. This dude — who won the G1 Arkansas Derby earlier this year and just ran 4th in both the Texas and Iowa Derbies — went 4 furlongs in an easy :49.60. That was the best time out of 3 to go that far. Look for this one to be a tough out if he goes in the Ellis Park Derby here later this week. Could be sitting on go.
- Momoa, a 3YO son of Creative Cause and trained by Wayne Catalano, worked at KEE this morning. This one — who just broke the maiden at Ellis Park in the 2nd career start — went a very quick 4 furlongs in :47.80. That was the bullet move out of 3 to go the distance over the main dirt track. Look for more out of this one soon. Just now kicking into gear.
- Gunite, a 2YO son of Gun Runner and a winner in his last outing at Churchill Downs on June 26 for trainer Steve Asmussen, worked at Saratoga this morning. Went 3 furlongs in :37.62, which was the 3rd best time out of 6 to go the distance. This one could pop up in a 2YO Stakes soon for these connections. They take shots. They take winners, too.
- Red Run, another 2YO son of Gun Runner and another trained by Team Asmussen for the Winchell Thoroughbreds, worked at Saratoga, too. Went the same 3 furlongs in a deliberate :39.40. That was 6th best of the group. This one broke the maiden on debut by nearly 2 on May 9. Came back to run in the Bashford Manor at Churchill Downs, but was 5th as the PT favorite. Had a rough trip in that one on June 26 and has not been to the post since. Today’s work was the 5th published move since the last race. Looks ready.
- Fulsome, a mucho talented 3YO son of Into Mischief for trainer Brad Cox, worked at Saratoga today, as well. This one — who ran third in the G3 Indiana Derby in the last outing, after three straight impressive victories — went 5 furlongs in 1:01.32. That was the 4th best time out of 4. In the last race, Fulsome was greatly compromised by a lack of speed and managed a late run as the prohibitive favorite. But he was flattered this weekend when the Indy Derby winner — Mr. Wireless — won the West Virginia Derby, too. Look for Fulsome to rebound. With style. I’ll be waiting.
- Clairiere, a 3YO daughter of Curlin and another from the barn of Team Asmussen, worked at Saratoga. Went 5 furlongs in 1:02 flat. That was the bullet move out of the 3 to go that far. Last time out, this one was 3rd in the G1 CCA Oaks. Before that? Third in the G2 Mother Goose. Before that? Fourth in the G1 KY Oaks. Been facing the best of the best. Has a 2-2-2 mark in 7 career starts and has earned nearly $500,000. Could face good ones again soon. Looks poised.
