Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

  1. Blended Citizen, a 4YO son of Proud Citizen and trained by Brad Cox, got his first win of the 2019 campaign last time out at Churchill downs on Nov. 28. Impressive in victory when dropped into the allowance company for the first time since June of this year. Before that? Broke his maiden at Del Mar on Nov. 24, 29017. Ran in 8 straight Stakes events after that. Five of those were Graded. Going into the recent win, the colt had raced in 4 more Stakes events. Three of them Graded. The win should boost the confidence of both horse and stable. Worked this morning under the Twin Spires. Went a very nice half mile in :47.80 — which was the 3rd best time out of 25 to clock that distance. This one may surge under the direction of Cox. Watch for his next outing.
  2. Shoplifted, a 2YO son of Into Mischief and trained by Steve Asmussen, worked this morning at Churchill Downs, as well. The colt — who sold to the current connections for a healthy $800,000 at the Fasig-Tipton March 2YO Sale — went a half mile in :50.40. That was the 18th best time out of the 25 to go that far. In his first 4 career starts, to date, Shoplifted has a win on debut at Saratoga and a second in the G1 Hopeful Stakes at “The Spa.” Since then, has a 5th in the G1 American Pharoah Stakes and a 7th in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile — both at Santa Anita. May return to form with a return to the Midwest. Look for more out of this one next time out.
  3. Warrior’s Charge, a 3YO son of Munnings and trained by Cox, has not run since finishing 4th in this year’s G1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico in May. Got his 5th published work today, since returning to serious training on Nov. 1. Went a very nice 5 furlongs in :59.60 — which was the 2nd best time out of 6 to clock that distance. Looks like this one is getting in shape pretty quickly. Ran 4 times at Oaklawn Park last winter. Looks to be getting ready for another try in Hot Springs soon.
  4. Portrait, a 2YO daughter of Tapizar and trained by Cox, worked at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans this morning. This gal — who ran 3rd in the G2 Pocahontas Stakes last time out on Sept. 14 at Churchill Downs — went a nice half mile in :48.40. That was the bullet move out of 23 to go that far this morning. In the Pocahontas, Portrait was beaten about 5 lengths by Lazy Daisey, who went on to run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Portrait ducked in at the beginning of that race and had to spend a lot of energy just getting in the picture at the wire. Look for more out of this one next time out.
