We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

We are back…Take a look:

  1. Kevin’s Folly, a 3YO son of Distorted Humor and trained by Tom Amoss, is coming off a 4th place finish in the Gun Runner Stakes at the Fair Grounds on the day after Christmas. Was soundly beaten by Epicenter in that one, and after 5 career starts now, this one has a 1-0-2 mark. But the good news is that this dark bay did run 3rd to Gunite in the G1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga last year. Worked in New Orleans this morning. Went an easy half-mile in :48.60. That was the 18th best time out of a whopping 85 horses to clock the distance. Look for more out of this one soon.
  2. Concert Tour, a 4YO son of Street Sense and now under the tutelage of trainer Brad Cox, worked at the Fair Grounds this morning, as well. This one — who has a 3-0-1 record in the first 5 starts — has not raced since last May, when he was a disappointing 9th in the G1 Preakness Stakes. Before that, he won the G2 Rebel and ran 3rd in the G1 Arkansas Derby, while being trained by the embattled Bob Baffert. Worked 5 furlongs in 1:00.05, which was the bullet move out of 35 to go that far this morning. It was the 9th published work since this one was returned to serious training last November. Soon? Let’s hope so.
  3. Knicks Go, winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic last November for trainer Brad Cox, worked this morning in preparation for his last career start in the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park. This 6YO son of Paynter has a career record of 10-3-1 in 24 starts and now has earnings over $8.67 million. He went 5 furlongs this morning in 1:01.40. That was the 10th best time out of the 35. It was the 5th published work since winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Look out. Still brilliant. Still fast. Still tough as nails.
  4. Mandaloun, winner of the G1 Haskell Stakes and soon to be declared the winner of the 2021 KY Derby, worked this morning at the Fair Grounds for trainer Brad Cox, as well. The 4YO son of Into Mischief went 5 furlongs in 1:00.60. That was the 3rd best time out of the group. In 8 career starts to date, this one has a record of 5-1-1. Should be ready for a return to action very soon. Exciting.
  5. Strava, an exciting 3YO son of Into Mischief and a winner in his only race to date for trainer Dallas Stewart, worked this morning in New Orleans. This one went 5 furlongs in 1:02.80 — which was 31st out of this grouping. This was the 5th published work since being returned to serious training on Dec. 6 here. Look for more out of this one soon. Pedigree is there. Talent seems to be, too.
  6. Reinvestment Risk, a 4YO son of Upstart and trained by Chad Brown, worked this morning at Payson Park in South Florida. This one — who has a 1-2-1 record in 5 career starts and had back-to-back 2nds in the G1 Hopeful Stakes and the G1 Champagne Stakes in 2020 — went a half-mile this morning in :49.40. That was the 7th best time out of the 24 to clock the distance. This guy made only one start in 2021 and that was back in June. Today’s move was the 6th published work since being returned to serious training in late November. May be getting ready soon.
  7. Zandon, a 3YO son of Upstart and another trainer by Brown, worked at Payson Park this morning, as well. This guy — who ran 2nd by just a dirty nose to Mo Donegal in the G2 Remsen Stakes — went 4 furlongs in :49.40. That was also the 7th best time. This one could make a run at the 2022 KY Derby in the near future. Bears watching.
  8. Astronaut, a 5YO son of Quality Road and trained by John Shirreffs, worked at Santa Anita this morning. This dark bay horse — who won the G2 Del Mar Handicap last August before running 12th in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf — went 4 furlongs in :49.20 over the main dirt surface. That was the 36th best time out of 69 to go the distance. It was just the third published work since Dec. 8. More to come. Stayed tuned.
  9. Eda, a 3YO Munnings filly trained by Bob Baffert, worked at Santa Anita this morning, too. This one — who has 3 wins in a row and 4 out of the first 6 career starts — went 4 furlongs in :48.20. That was the 9th best time out of the 69. In the last start, this one captured the Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos to give her the third win in a row. Speedster. Who carried her speed 11/16-miles last time out.
