(Nearly?) Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

  1. Alejandro, a 3YO son of Curlin and trained by Steve Asmussen, is entered in a MSW event on Louisiana Derby Day — this Saturday. This one has raced three times to date, and has a 2nd to show one the resume. Keep an eye on this one this weekend, though. Training well of late, and blew out at the Fair Grounds this morning. Went an easy 4 furlongs in :51.40, which was the 22nd best time out of 24. Homebred of Stonestreet Farm could be primed for a good one.
  2. Clairiere, winner of the G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes last time out and a major threat for the Fair Grounds Oaks this Saturday, worked at the Fair Grounds this morning. Blew out a half-mile in :49.80, which was the 12th best time out of 24 to go the distance today. In 3 career starts to date, this one has two wins and a second. Was runner-up to Travel Column in the G2 Golden Rod at Churchill Downs last Fall. Look out. Looks poised.
  3. Midnight Bourbon, a 3YO son of Tiznow and another from the barn of Team Asmussen, prepped for Saturday’s Louisiana Derby this morning. Got in his final workout with a 4 furlong breeze in :49.20. That was the 9th best time out of 24 to go the distance. This guy won the G3 Lecomte Stakes here to open the 2021 racing season. Came back to run 3rd to Mandaloun in the G2 Risen Star last time out. It will be interesting to see if this one gets the urge to go right to the front this weekend. My guess? He will be sent.
  4. Duopoly, a 4YO daughter of Animal Kingdom and trained by Chad Brown, worked at Payson Park in South Florida this morning. The quick-footed filly — who has won 4 of 6 lifetime starts and is a Graded-Stakes winner now after capturing the G1 American Oaks at Santa Anita on Dec. 26 — went 4 furlongs in :50 flat. That was the bullet move out of 5.
