Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

  1. Spinoff, a 4YO son of Hard Spun and trained by Todd Pletcher, worked this morning at the Palm Beach training facility in South Florida. The colt — who ran 2nd in the G2 Louisiana Derby a year ago and subsequently finished 18th in the G1 KY Derby — has raced only 3 times since the “First Saturday in May.” Did win an allowance race at Saratoga in August, but that was the last time he made the races. Got his 2nd published work since returning to serious training on March 16 this morning. Went 4 furlongs in a leisurely :49.56. That was the 3rd fastest time out of 9 to go the distance. This one is still aways away, but has the talent to become a really good 4YO this year. Take note.
  2. Selflessly, a 3YO daughter of More Than Ready and trained by Chad Brown, worked this morning at the Palm Meadows training facility in South Florida. This gal — who has a win and a second in 3 career starts, with a 5th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf — worked 3 furlongs over the dirt track this morning in a time of :38 flat. That was the 3rd published work for this filly since March 9 and was the 4th fastest time out of 14 to go that far. This Maryland-bred filly is still working her way back to you.
  3. Uni, a multiple Graded Stakes winning daughter of More Than Ready, also worked at Palm Meadows today. The 6YO mare travelled 4 furlongs over the turf course in :49.40. That was the 12th best time out of 14 to negotiate the course. It was the 3rd published work for Uni since March 9, as well. In her last two starts, she captured the G1 First Lady Stakes at KEE in October and the Breeders’ Cup Mile against the colts last November. In 18 career starts, she has now earned over $2.347 million in earnings. Special.
  4. Ghostlore, a 3YO son of Ghostzapper and trained by Ian Wilkes, is entered to run on Friday, March 27 at Gulfstream Park, and this one bears watching — to be sure. Our newest addition to our “Horse to Watch” list. Back in September of 2019, he ran 2nd in a MSW event at Churchill Downs when going a flat mile over the dirt track. Got beat less than a length that day by a horse named Maxfield. Remember him? In his last start, Ghostlore ran 3rd and was beaten less than 2 on Nov. 10 at Churchill Downs. Went 11/16-miles over the turf that day. Was beaten by a horse named Bless the Kitten that day, but he whipped a horse by the name of Invader in there too. Invader just ran 2nd in the G3 Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park. This morning, Ghostlore tuned up for this weekend’s race with a breeze at Palm Meadows. Went a half mile over the dirt track in :49.85. That was the 2nd best time out of 14, and was the colt’s 6th published work since Feb. 16. Ghostlore has drawn the #10 hole in a 11/16-mile event for the sod this Friday. It is the first race on the card. Might be worth watching.
